Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The problem with it, from what I have seen, is once the car starts to warm up or has been driven for about 5 mins it begins to not accelerate properly, will maintain revs though, and revs perfectly fine while stopped. But as soon as its warmed up the car doesn't accelerate and while trying to it jumps around. Also not sure if problem is fuel related but the empty petrol light goes on and off when there is half a tank in the meter.

SOURCE: generator light on 1996 jeep cherokee. what does

First clean the battery terminals & their connection to the battery. Check to see if the alternator belt is tight. Once started, connect an amp. meter to thebattery terminals. Black to black, red to red. If the reading is over 13.2, alternator is charging. If it is not, change the alternator. If it is over 13.2, you may need a new battery. Have a load test done at any reputable automotive store. Hope this helps & if it does please do the right thing & recommend this advice. Thanks

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport (approx 178,000 miles) When first starting engine liquid drips out from tailpipe. Never notice this before. Doesn't appear to last long, after I have driven it around for 15...

Your liquid is most likely built up condensation from the last run. It is very common to have this on start up. If it last a long time and is white and cloud like in shape and color then you have coolant leaking into the combustion chamber.

Check out your cold start choke. It is designed to cause your fuel mixture to run "rich" until it warms up. It is basically a heat sensitive coil that reacts to heat from the exhaust manifold.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport bogs down

I just posted a simular resonse in another post. What is sounds like it that the fuel pump is starting to go bad. When it heats up after use the pressure drops not pusing the full amount of fuel. Whenits cold it works fine until it heats back up 10-20 mins. remember fuel in the tank helps cool the pump so keep it soewhat full but sounds like the damage is done. your probally gonna have to replace it.

Jeep cherokee sport, engine wont start unless worm.

Check the temperature tells the computer when it's cold, and changes fuel mixture accordingly. (same as a choke used to do)
Just curious...If it only starts warm, how do you get it warm???

Heater blows warm-cold after 25 min. running

Check the Temperature Control Sensor located at the engine near the thermostat.

2001 cherokee sport

The heat control valve, this is the valve that allows hot engine coolant to flow into the heater core inside the dash , if its decective it will not open to let the coolant to flow.
The Thermostat if it is bad (stuck open) the car will not warm up and will also cause a no heat problem as well as many other issues.
Does the car warm up quickly and reach operating temp within about 5 min?
