SOURCE: wont complete scan to pass emission test

When you rest your codes there is a series of tests your ECU has to go through before you can pass emissions. this is done some people can reset the code and go before its sets the code again. on the 96 you can have 2 tests not complete for it to pass. basicly you have to drive the car a couple days for the tests to pass.

check the readiness tests wait until only 2 have not passed. then you should be good.so drive and check.

SOURCE: 1996 doge intrepid wont pass emission test because IM monitors ar

Just maybe your O2 sensors are not operating properly. They may be requiring your engine to heat them up to get upper temperature readings but not lower. You can easily diagnose these and all other sensors and problems by purchasing a Hains manual at your local Auto Zone or Advance auto store which will greatly aide you in diagnosing all your auto needs. And the fault symptom index at the beginning of the book will ease your troubles with professional one on one advice with step by step instructions. Its like having your own ASE certified mechanic at your finger tips. Good luck.

SOURCE: mass air flow sensor bad on 2002 monte carlo ss

It's should be a simple remove and replace. Just make sure the engine is off. Also do not touch any of the filament wires on the sensor, just the plastic housing. Also after you install it drive the car for a little while (city speeds, cruising speeds and inbetween). That way the computer will be able to readjust its setting since it is a new sensor.

change your oil and oil filter. Add a bottle of octane boost to the fuel tank then top off with fuel. Drive vehicle for about twenty minutes then have emissions tested. Unless you have a bad catalytic converter, you should pass emissions.

Does the thermastat have anything to do with the emissions

Katherine can you post the results of the test for emissions so that I can get an idea on what is too high? You should have gotten a printout with CO, NO, HC levels.
Thermostat can impact emissions because one of the things that controls emissions is engine temp. When it is too cold, it wont convert emissions levels like it is supposed to.

2004 Sebring failed the emissions testing

Probably not a cheap fix.
The car will not pass the test if the light is on during the test.
The light is on when the computer has a problem that will affect emissions or performance.
You would need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes then fix the problem. Once the problem is fixed and the code is erased, the light should stay off.

Wont pass emissions air,fuel mixture

This is a problem with your Cat converter Replacing car will then pass the emissions test, Air and fuel mixture if it was wrong your car wouldn't respond correctly and you would know something is wrong before you did any emissions tests, Also garage would have tweaked it for free for you as only takes a couple of mins

Computer not recognized while trying to get emissions testing

I would try another dealer or service shop.
their instruction may not be functioning or they are using the wrong setting.
the comupter has to be functioning, otherwise, the car will not be running.

SMOG TEST

If it was originally intended for Texas, it's probably been made as a 49-state-compliant vehicle (CA has stricter emissions). To pass in CA, you may need some new parts for the truck in order to get it to pass. Or you may find that the best course of action is to sell the truck and buy a CA-emissions car.

The CA DMV may well have information available on how to get non-CA-compliant cars to pass the CA emissions testing.
