Catalytic converters are still most commonly used in exhaust systems in automobiles, but are also used on generator sets, forklifts, mining equipment, trucks, buses, locomotives, motorcycles, airplanes and other engine-fitted devices. They are also used on some wood stoves to control emissions.[6] This is usually in response to government regulation, either through direct environmental regulation or through health and safety regulations.
Catalytic oxidization is also used, but for the purpose of safe, flameless generation of heat rather than destruction of pollutants, in catalytic heaters.

Broker wire to my O2 sensor


Try to trace the white wire that leads to the o2 sensor by unwrapping the harness that is in the vicinity of the o2 sensor. Try to fiind the wire that way. That's the way an electrical shop would do it. Resplice the wires together. You've done most of the hard work. Good luck to you. The oxygen (O2) sensor is a device which produces an electrical voltage when exposed to the oxygen present in the exhaust gases. The sensor is mounted in the exhaust manifold or turbocharger outlet and is electrically heated internally for faster switching when the engine is running. When there is a large amount of oxygen present (lean mixture), the sensor produces a low voltage. When there is a lesser amount present (rich mixture) it produces a higher voltage. By monitoring the oxygen content and converting it to electrical voltage, the sensor acts as a rich-lean switch. The voltage is transmitted to the engine controller which changes the fuel injector's pulse width. The injector changes the mixture.

My check engine light come on off and on in a period of 3 day it will be on and then turn off for about 4 days. I took it to autozone and they told me the the code was my O2 sensor. Why does it turn off...


The O2 sensor is designed to produce voltage based on an electro chemical reaction. It uses oxygen as a catilyst. The oxygen in the sensor combines with the bimetalic cell. Like a battery does with acid and lead/zink plates.
The more oxygen the lower the voltage is and the lower the oxygen the higher the number 9it works the opposite way if its a europeen Luft sensor). any way the O2 sensor values are easily squed if there is any contamination or high milage will also damage an O2 sensor. Like a battery the cell plates may become shorted and or dirty and work at times and not at others.
