SOURCE: 2001 jeep cherokee valve cover gasket

It's not terribly hard, easier if it's a four cylinder than a six. You can judge for yourself, look under the hood, If you have a plastic engine cover in there, take it off, it's just snapped on and usual plastic. The valve covers are rectangular metal covers the length of the engine and perhaps 4" wide. You have one if a four, and two if a six. The four cylinder design is right in th middle, the six are two on each side.

Now look at the wires and hoses and how many need to be moved to get at the six or so fasteners that hold it down. This is where most of the time is. It's just a matter of getting the fasterners loose and removing the cover. Scrap off the old gasket, which probably isn't going to be much. Use for locktite silcon sealer put on new gasket fastner cover back down.

I usually can do this in about an hour. Therefore answer to your question is $60-80 labor depending where you have it done. The gaskets are probably $25. You can check this online at one of many parts suppliers. One I like is Rockauto.

There you go.

SOURCE: how to replace timing cover gasket on a '97 jeep grand cherokee

Pull the alternator brackets and front engine brackets off until you get to the water pump. You will also need to remove the fan shroud and then the fan. Remove the water pump and then you will see an aluminum cover and that will be your timing cover. remove the cover and clean all the gasket off the engine and the cover. use a razor blade, and make sure there in no oil or grease on the parts where the gasket lies. Put your gasket on, bolt the cover back on with the new gasket and repeat the teardown process in reverse.

Signs of a bad valve cover gasket

My first question would be, what was the original trouble code that directed the mechanic to replace the sensors ? You seldom need more than one O2 sensor at a time. Its possible the exhaust manifold is leaking and that might cause a problem that would turn on the warning light. Or it could be something else.
A valve cover gasket will leak oil if it fails. No check engine light.

Oil leaks on my jeep grand cherokee 2000

Most common are valve cover gaskets worn out...especially the inline 6 cylinder...inspect the oil pressure sending unit located beside the oil filter...these are the most common and least costly fixes...Hope this helps.

Average cost to replace lifters on a 2002 jeep grand cherokee 4.0

depending all that is done about $300 dollars thats 12 lifters test 12 push rods replase rods $4.00 each rocker arm cover gasket oil filter and oil change afterwords. This does not include any replacement of oil pump or flushing which may be required, also would recommend a top engine clean before doing lifter replacement so when you change the oil once.

Valve cover leak oil

My suggestion would be to spend about $20 on a Haynes or Chilton manual and they will walk you through it. Most part stores have them.

Oil leaking on top of engine..is it valve seals?

it's verry likely your valve cover gasket is leaking. that is one of the first seals to go but it is an easy fix at least. use some gasket sealer or a neopreene gasket the corque gaskets are obsolete and they don't last very long.

Valve cover is stuck

Take a putty knife or similar and tap it between the valve cover and engine. The gasket sealant is holding the cover on. When you replace the valve cover you will also use a sealant after scraping the old off.
