1 Answer

2005 jeep grand cherokee 3.7 40,000 miles. Last 8 months intermittent no crank can sit for eight hours or 10 minutes. Original battery but load tests fine. Starter replaced. Dealer had it for two days cranked and started every time. Obviously no codes

The starter acts as if the battery is dead but the battery load tests fine usually a couple of clicks or a quater turn from the starter. Turning the key to the start position a half a dozen times or more it then starts like normal

I had a similar problem with a gmc jimmy and changed ignition module several times before i ended up buying a new distributor and changing it out and have had no problem since 2 years ago

Chk the battery ground cable, Remove and clean. Then chk your charging system at the battery. Should charge between 13.6 and 14.2v If it is charging above 14.2 your alt is barely charging, The further below 13.6 the more amps the alt is putting out. Make sure you battery has adequate water in it. A battery will rejuvinate itself after it has gone dead after sitting awhile, but only enough to last a few minutes. Turning on you headlights would kill it right then.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Not Starting Intermittently

Check the battery. If it starts to fail it will start doing any conceivable thing including failing to start the car. Have the battery checked with a load tester. A simple voltmeter will not give an account of the requirements needed and the ability of the battery to meet those requirements.

I'm experieince intermittent starting . One day the jeep will crank & start, the next day when I attempt to start it I get nothing.

Its the starter solenoid. Remove 2 bolts and the lead wire and pull the starter out. most local parts stores can test the starter for you, but if the problem is intermittent it might not show up during their test.

On my jeep, after pulling the starter, I disassembled the solenoid. The actual failure of the solenoid was the electrical contact. I cleaned off the corrosion and have had no problems for 40,000 miles.

You say you changed the cam sensor. A1391 code is a crank sensor on the top of the trans. bell housing.
