Question about 1999 GMC Jimmy
I have a 99 gmc jimmy SLE the keyless entry will not work I can't get the car into program mode. I have the correct procedure. Also the security system does not operate. Previous owner installed a remote car started and had to take it out because it wouldn;t work. What can I do to repair the keyless entry and security issue. I want to put the electrical back to factory. Deals want too mch to just look at this problem.
Hi: From my experience the security issue is easily solved because hitting the factory key FOB lock button is the only way to activate it, hitting door lock button will not activate it. When installing a remote starter no wires are cut usually, just spliced into which means... make sure that where wires were spliced they are taped. If you have the original factory key FOB use a quarter and pop apart, replace the battery, key FOB should have retained its factory setting if your lucky, if doesn't work go to internet search and find programming procedure. Hope this helps... please rate suggestion...ty

Sounds like you have some wire tracing to do; I wouldn't try this without having complete electrical diagrams at hand.
I recommend you procure (buy or check with your local library) an aftermarket service manual which will contain what you need to know.
If Haynes has one for your truck, they have been better than Chilton (belong to the same co.) but either would be better than none.
If you don't already have a multimeter for checking continuity (resistance) and voltage, you can buy these at Radio Shack or auto parts stores for <$20 US or if a Harbor Freight Tool store is in your area, <$10. They come with Chinglish instructions that are sometimes even intelligible.

If you haven't already got it fixed. I have the same issue same idiot type installing a remote car starter. He took out the remote reciever module that is located lower left hand Instrument panel in the same place the plug in interface for code analysis. I have bought a new reciever and all is well again.
