Recently bought a Saab 93 Vector Sport 1.9TDi (2004 model). Great looking ar however I find the ride quality a bit disappointing. I know the suspension is firm - I can handle this, however the noise when going over bumps or uneven bits on the road is extremely frustrating. I would describe it as a loud thudding noise as opposed to a bang or a clang or a knock. I would say the noise comes from front and back. It is still under warranty and has been back to the garage 7 times in 2 months - the mechanics are sick of me! They took it for a spin round the block and their diagnosis ranged from - nothing wrong with it to having new track rods fitted to the front wheels then new suspension arms on the rear wheels and more recently 2 new shock absorbers fitted to the front wheels. Despite this I still feel the ride is noisy however the front does not seem to be as bad now that the new shock absorbers have been fitted. Is this common with cars with hard suspension? Am I being overly fussy. Please help. Thank you.
Have you tried driving over a bump whilst also applying the brakes? (Right foot on gas, left gently on brake - with no one behind you!) If the noise goes away, then it could be the brake pads that are not fitted correctly. Only posting this, as this just happened to mine...the mechanic took it over bumps and noise was there. Applied brakes whilst going over bump, noise went away. Replaced badly fitted rear pads (had been bodged by another garage) and the problem was solved.
I had a car it ride hard you could feel the road as you run over it. i put a little wider tire it helped. it ride better.but now you have anti lock brakes.if you get a wider tire . tell the tire salesman get you a tire that wont upset the antilock brake system.you want factory height but just a wider tire.
