    Someone had said possibly blown head gasket, but there's no white exhaust smoke or muddy looking oil. I'll have the fan checked...thanks!

    Well you can try your thermostat but it may be the timing on the fan it sounds like it is kicking on late.

Replace the thermostat. After that, if problem persists, feel the radiator with engine at normal operating temp. If part of it feels cool, this would indicate a restricted radiator, Very common.Also purchase a block tester, available at napa or other reputable parts store for about thirty dollars. Follow directions, cheapest way to find head gasket breech into cooling system. Good luck!

95 monte carlo 3.1 cooling fan comes on at 3/4 temp, when the coolant temp sensor is disconnected both fans run strongly until car is shut off, but when its connected only 1 fan will come on at 3/4 temp

to check both fans work at high temps put a sheet of card over the rad to block off airflow and run engine till hot,keeping an eye on when they both start (one is set at a lower temp than the other),if the second fan dont start when the engine is really hot THEN you have a problem.....

if it is overheating try replacing the thermostat first. If it is stuck closed the coolant cant cycle through the engine properly. Also, try a flush and fill.

2001 chevy monte carlo is overheating when driving

Hi;
If your engine cools down when moving fast, you either have a problem with your water pump or your electric fans that cool off your radiator and a/c condenser. This is controlled by a temperature switch, but these fans should kick on instantly when A/C is selected.
