Pull the valve off and see if it seals, it may have carbon in the pentile and allowing excessive flow.

1985 ford ranger runs good for a couple of days

Is it carburated? Rebuild it. Backfire is fuel leaving engine without burning popping in exhaust system. Bad valves?

1996 ford ranger obd2 code 0402

check your egr valve its probably stuck open from carbon buildup and is letting too much exhaust recirculate you can take these off and clean them but with the age of your vehicle i would replace it

there is also a sensor that measures this that sometimes fails its called DPFE sensor it measures the amount of exhaust that is recirculate

not knowing what engine you have its hard to tell you ware the egr and DPFE sensor is located

98 ranger no spark no fuel

  1. crankshaft position sensor could be at fault. CPS is responsible for spark timing and fuel pressure at the pressure regulator. A code should be stored on the vehicles PCM. The check engine light should be on. Codes must be read by a generic code reader.

Engine won't idle,

ok code 32 is the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) this does not mean that the EGR valve is bad right off, check it and see if it is stuck in the open position, remove the vacuum line see if it moves, it should not. It is supposed to open at highway speed to recirculate exhaust gases and burn them, if the valve is stuck open the engine will not idle because it upsets the air mixture too much, if you remove the valve and see its open, then replace it.

Check engine light on - P0400 malfunction

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system recirculates exhaust gas into the intake manifold (9424). This lowers combustion temperatures and reduces the formation of oxides of nitrogen (NOX). The amount of exhaust gas reintroduced and the timing of the cycle varies by calibration. Timing and volume are controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650). The EGR valve (EGR valve) (9D475) is vacuum actuated. The vacuum hose routing diagram is shown on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) decal. EGR operation stops when the engine temperature is cold, to improve driveability. The PCM controls the EGR solenoid vacuum valve (9D474). When energized the intake manifold vacuum outlet fitting and cap (9A474) allows exhaust gas to be circulated in the engine to be burned.
