Have a cooling system pressure test done to determine where the oil leak is. I suspect it will be in the aluminium timing cover behind the water pump impellor.. have a compression test done to check for head gasket problem

SOURCE: low oil when engine warms up gmc sierra 1995

30-40 psi of oil pressure is fine for many vehicles including your GMC. I am assuming that the truck has more than 100,000 miles on it and still has the original engine in it. By rule of thumb you only need 10 psi per 1000 rpms in a typical street driven engine to give adequate oil pressure to keep the bearings from oil starvation. The oil pressure is typically higher when initial start up occurs because it is more viscous due to the temperature of the oil as the engines oil warms up the visconsity thins out and the oil flows more smoothly. The drop in oil pressure is a normal occurance. Above 45 is more than required for a daily driven street engine. I believe that the specs on that engine only list 30- 45 psi.

Is the tranny in a 1997 GMC Sierra compatible w/ a 1998 Sierra with same engine, configuration, etc?

97 has 4l60 and in 98 some switched to 4l60-e.. which has shift solenoids.. all electric.. the connector on the side will tell you if it's the same or not. A 4l60-e won't shift if the truck takes the non-electric version..

I have a 1996 GMC Sierra what engine wiring harness is interchangeable with this truck

I believe a 96-98 harness from any chevy or gmc would work. V8 to V8 not V6 to V8 the 305 and 350 would be the same harness

How to change the water pump on 98 GMC Sierra

Michael is correct on replacing water pump but if you are mech. inclined it can be done by removing upper fan shroud and serp. belt only. leave fan on pump until removed. remove 4 15mill bolts and the whole assembly. apply gasket sealer to both sides of gasket and insert 2 upper bolts to keep gasket in place when reinstalling.I have a 1998 gmc and did this a couple days ago while installing injection spider.

I have a 2003 gmc sierra 5.3 liter vortec why does my truck leak oil only under pressure

because your oil pressure rises to around 40psi when running and will leak at the weakest place, check your oil sending unit first and seals.

I have a gmc Sierra 2008 and I can't find the oil drain plug to change my oil where is it?

The oil plug will be located on your oil pan. If you checked ther are you sure you checked all areas? I have never seen one anywhere else. Especially on an american made vehicle. I don't know your experience level but the oil pan is located just in front of the transmission under the engine. I hope that helps you find it.

What's the engine oil capacity for the 1994 gmc sierra v-6 engine?

Hello hanksteen: My name is Roger and I will answer your question. THe crank case takes 4 qt. When changing filter at the same time add 1/2 qt. in addition to the 4 qt. Start the engine and allow the oil pressure to build up. Shut the engine off and recheck the oil. Add more oil if needed. Should you need more help please just ask. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
