The output for a normal alternator should be 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts. the heavy lead from the back of the alternator goes to the battery and charges the battery. it could be loose or corroded

check for an inline fuse between the alt and battery,otherwise take a jumper cable from the positive terminal on the battery to the alt. battery terminal output direct and now check for charge
