Question about Audi A6
Are you trying to set up for a timing belt change? If so, you want to remember that cylinder #3 is the reference (index) cylinder - set it to top dead center on the compression stroke to get the engine oriented correctly. When you have the upper timing covers off after doing so, you'll see that there are two oval brackets on the exhaust cam sprockets, and each has two holes in it - one large, one small. When you have the engine indexed correctly, those oval brackets will be horizontal, and the larger holes will be toward the center of the engine.
If that doesn't help you, please clarify what you need based on this and I'll see what I can do to help.
