Question about Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Chevy Malibu with less than 70,000 miles. It has been running well until last night when it would not start. I tried to start the car, but it had no power, the instruments did not light-up, it did not crank, the interior light did not come on, and the headlights and the door locks did not work. I assumed that the battery (just a few months old) was dead. I stepped out of the car and tried locking and unlocking the car with the key fob. I then opened the door and the alarm sounded -- I hit the unlock button on the fob, the alarm stopped, the interior light was on, and when I put the key in the ignition the instruments/dash lit-up. I thought that I was out of the woods because the battery is clearly not dead, but no such luck. When I turned the key to the "on" position all the power cut-out and I was back to square one -- that is, no instruments, no interior light, no headlights, door locks, etc. The engine did not crank at all. I let the car sit overnight so I could read-up on these symptoms. I have been reading troubleshooting tips, but did not see any addressing the issue that I am experiencing, but some that sound equally frustrating and whacky. I tried again earlier today and had pretty much the same results (i.e., no power, then the alarm registers, power returns, turn the key, and I lose all power). Is the alarm/security killing the engine? Any thoughts? Thanks.

FYI, I jiggled the wires to the battery and the alarm sounded. I tried again to start the car with the same result. I tightened the wires to the battery and the car has started up without a problem. Thanks.

SOURCE: I bought a Chevy Trailblazer, used, had keyless

You need to find the black push button called the valet button. That is the overide. Get in the car turn the key to IGN as the alarm is going off and then you have either 5 or 10 seconds to push that button once and then 2-5 seconds later the alarm is shut off. To put the car into valet mode which means no alarm at all you put the key to IGN push that button once then pull key out at which point the blue light should turn solid blue.

Or option two is you open a door and hit the lock, then unlock, then lock button again on the remote and the blue led will be solid which means no crazy alarm.

SOURCE: My key will not open the doors or start the engine

It's possible that your key is bad or no longer works. A way to verify that it is a key problem is to see if the 2nd key or spare key works properly. Check the side of the remote key for a 3 digit #. if the key variant is less then 221 the way to reset it is to put it in the ignition and pull it out 5x with 8secs. If higher than 221 then the no need to try and reset remote key.

2000 chevy malibu there is a tapping sound when i

Most likely its just your lifters clapping as they make contact, until the oil starts flowing good through them, then it goes away. My car has been doing that for a long time. Never had any problems. The rods are pushed up by the camshaft, the rods push down rocker arms which then open the valves. The rods are round at the tips and sit in lifters that pump oil through them up to the top of the engine and then out onto the valve springs. If your car has a lot of miles you may consider putting a thicker oil, something like 10w40.

Fuel pump on chevy malibu

on 2000 malibu, the fuel pump is in the tank it will take you as long as it takes to drop tank! fuel pump is on top of tank, before starting remove fuel pressure by removing fuel pump fuse and run until it quits.it will take approx. 2-3hours to do a decent job. exhaust pipe is not on top it is on the left of the tank.
