More than likely you have a pressure switch that needs to be replaced. I would have a Honda dealer scan it and make sure. probably 3rd gear.

The light on D keeps flicking when the gear is in drive and the car is being driven

non hybrid answer.....?
The TCM (tranny brain) read the operators guide. (open glove box , grab it) its free this guide. get one.
it tell you D1 flashes, and means tranny MALF.

On some cars, after 1996 the Tranny fail codes are reported
via the ECU, using any scan tool. ever use a scan tool?
see P070x codes....
are you in USA? if yes, then all scan tools work, here. for ECU.

The FSM has over 100 pages on , on car tranny diagnosis
ever seen that?

page 178 , see that, page? below. why not burn this to CD or memory stick and put it back in the glove box for next time.?

http://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/honda/honda-accord-owners-manuals/

FSM?
honda sells it.
see alldata dot com, or mitchels.
used FSM on fleabay ,dirt cheap.
or?

and OBD2 scan tool is like $9 today 2013
and this car has 100s of DTCs for just the tranny
P07xx 8xx and 9xx, one of the largest set of code of any car ever made, it blows the mind, how many.;
so connect the tool and see the codes.
DTC's diagnostic trouble codes.

Odometer flickrs and will not stay steady when engaged

Do you mean the Speedometer or the mileometer? If its the speedometer and it is driven by a wire cable it is probably dry (no grease), Kinked or the square that it fits in is worn (either end) or the drive has a tooth off it in the gearbox. If it is an electric drive then probably either a wire shorting or the sender unit. If you mean the mileometer is flicking then this could be due to someone has clocked the mileage back and not done it properly (new clock I'm afraid)

Just got alternater replaced a couple of months ago and its starting to squeel again like last time and the battery light keeps flickering on and off

The alternator drive belt is loose or worn out. If the alternator is driven off a serpentine belt then replace the belt. Inspect the serpentine belt tensioner and replace if necessary. On an 18 year old car it is more than likely defective. If it is driven off a standard drive belt then adjust the alternator to tighten the belt. Inspect the belt for fraying and or cracks and replace if you see any.

ESP warning light came on - no other symptoms. Next time car driven and was veering into left turn lane (no significant speed) it felt like there was a flopping flat tire and some lack of steering...

The ESP is the stability system for the car and suggests there might be a broken/damaged spring or anti roll bar or something like that. I would not drive a car with a lack of steering - it is dangerous. I think you need to get a mechanic out to look at the problem. If you're in the AA, RAC or Green Flag I'd call them out to look at the problem. They will tow your car into your local Garage if the problem, is not fixable at the roadside. At least that's what AA do, although I have heard some of the other organisations will just tow you to garage and not try to ascertain the problem.

Over heating hard to steer and keeps running after ignition off

Definitely have the shop that worked on it TOW it back and look it over. Or have someone else check it out and document what they find. Either way, DO NOT DRIVE it if you haven't wasted the engine yet you easily could if driven!!!

Tail Lights

It sounds like you need to eliminate the problem, step by step. The first step, is to check the tail lights, to see if they are loose. Next step, check the wires leading from the tail lights, to see if they are bare & touching something. Next, check your fuses, to see if they are loose. Finally, if that doesn't help, go purchase new tail lights and replace them and see if that works.
