Question about 2001 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

I can't figure out how to open the back hatch. I can get the window open but not the whole thing. I just got my sub and am freaking out. The guy opened it when he showed it to me before I bought it but I missed how he did it. Also the check susp light is one. What does that even mean?

Ok, the knob turns one way for the glass, and turn the other for the hatch. check suspension light is on means the switch for the air compresser is off. if your truck has the load leveling system, switch is located on passender side footwell mounted about 4inches from the firewall. black toggle switch. if the switch is on, you better see about having the system checked, air leaking somewhere. i swapped mine out after 2 compresser replacements.

SOURCE: hte back door wont open

Probably a issue with your actuator... there is a recall due to the "latching system does not meet the inertia load requirement" might want to check with the dealership to see if your vehicle is with this group, hope this helps :)

Recall 04V602000: Liftgate Latch Release Rod Replacement

Certain 2004-2005 sport utility vehicles and certain 2001-2003 sport utiity vehicles having rear liftgate components serviced with 2004 equivalent components fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components." The rear liftgate latching system does not meet the inertia load requirement in one direction.

SOURCE: trunk/hatch will not open. handle seems loose.

2000 ford explorer back hatch handle loose door locked The linkage on the back hatch came unfastened and the handle was loose. Ford uses plastic fastener clips over perfectly good threads to hold this together. The outdoor plastic handle is only conected to the car with two aluminum ribets. One was already missing on mine. But if you just want to open the door, you can rip the handle off and pull it out. hopefully you won't crack the plastic. You can see the linkage screw hanging as you look up through the left hole. Grab it with a plyers and apply a steady force down. This will open the hatch. I just rigged up a different handle and put a nut on the treads to hold it together. This can all be done without tearing appart the interier and may only take 20 minutes. I used a rope and handle from the garage opener, a medium size washer and a nut. First make a small loop, with a small hole to slide over the linkage screw, then the washer, then the nut. Slide the other end of rope through the handle, move the handle very close to the vehicle and tie the not close. Trim the rope and wala ... the hatch works. Or you can pay $300.00+ to have it fixed with the clip.

Hatch won't open

Hi,
The car doesn't have a remote release lever on the driver's side floor in front of the driver's seat- where the gas door lever might be too?

Try pushing DOWN on the hatch while either turning the key or moving the lever.

Look in the Owner's Manual (or download one online).

I have a 1998 blazer. The back hatch window lock keeps acting as if wants to open. There is a noise the whole time you drive unless you hit the button on the dash to open the window.

that is the sound of the metal hatch on the window rattling against the locking mechanism. you especially hear it when you are driving on a bumpy/rocky road. you can wrap the metal latch on the window with some electrical tape. It quiets down the noise. if you can get a hold of some liquid rubber that will work and stay better...

Can't get door open

wiring connections or lock latch frozen --to manually bypass latch or to unlock rear hatch -- in the bottom of door panel is a round access hole remove cover just clipped into place using a flashlight and a screw driver about 3 inches in on bottom is the lock latch and window lock latch connections if u pull back on the inner latch u will unlock the hatch which will allow u to open it[ when opened check the wiring connections for corrosion or damage if good ] now u can remove the whole hatch panel and check the latches and actuator the actuator and latches, and rod clips sometimes need to be lubed or sometimes the clips break or disconnect clips can be purchased at any auto store panel is clipped into place carefully pry from a corner and using a screw driver or panel tool pry straight back till panel clip pops replacement of panel put clips in place and push in panel

Back hatch will not unlock and will not open

The above info was correct to a point , My door also would not open. I took off whole back panel and sprayed wd-40 over whole mechanism and was able to open door but if you lock it it will not reopen unless you manually move lock. So there must be a cable that comes down into latch that I manually moved. I would hope someone can verify that before I take panel off again or if a whole part must be replaced to come on here and respond and name the part or part number. It would be appreciated. The whole design has major flaws period. It should have a key latch in rear cargo door just in case . Also drivers door has no key either what were the ford engineers smoking when they came up with that. OR is it planned obsolescence !

Have 2001 Ford Windstar. Had back hatch open and backing down drive way. Corner of hatch hit edge of the house. The hatch was pushed up & in aprox. 2" so it now hangs at a slight angle and won't close. ...

makes me wonder if it is just the hinge that is bent and maybe the body where it attaches to the van. At the same time I doubt some thing easy will do away with the $2k expense (sorry). Maybe an entire back hatch with hinges from salvage yard (make sure to get same color).

My back hatch door doen't want to open

You need to climb in the back and remove the plastic panel from the hatch to access the lock. There may be a small access door over the locking mechanism to help you avoid removing the whole thing. Could be dirty and sticky and fixable with a bit of graphite lube.

HHR back hatch problem

There is a small hook on the right(driver side) of the latch that you can push with a screwdriver (it is hard to see you have to poke around a little)after you take the panel plug out of the rear door cover.I have the same problem I found that that the coil has become week and it does not have enough power to push the lath open. GOOD LUCK diddorat@yahoo.ca
