- I had the same problem with my BTSI (brake transmission shift interlock) whereas i couldnt shift out of park while applying the brake. My friend came over and took apart of shifter (located in the center console) and when I applied the brake, the BTSI solenoid didn't do anything. My friend just put a little piece of cardboard in to hold the solenoid open at all times (I don't have to press the brake to shift is all that it does) and I do not have the problem at all anymore. The check engine light never came on because of this (before or after his "fix") but it's worth a try for you. - GuestSolution #1
