Question about Cars & Trucks
When it dies you need to check the fuel pressure and see if the engine has spark. Also the engine can be scanned for codes, in this case it should have a fault code of some kind.

It's got all the symptoms of a leak in the fuel line. You may want to start backward at the tank and work your way all the way to the carb to find it but it would be surprising if it was something else. All the best.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 ford
Is there a check engine light when it is running? If not, a common problem on these (with no check engine light) is the crankshaft sensor failing-it can run intermittently, or not start at all if it is bad, they run about $35 and are held in by one bolt, usually pretty easy to replace.
