Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 1989 560 SEC is stalling out I've replaced battery and fuel filter. Although I found out one fuel pump was disconnected. I fixed the fuse to my knowledge. Now it starts up in the morning while it's cold and has no problem turning off and on. After temperature in engine goes up it dies after driving half a mile and doesn't start up until I wait 5 minutes. It will start again but die another half mile if I can get it that far. It also turns over very fast. Thank you, Kyle

When it dies you need to check the fuel pressure and see if the engine has spark. Also the engine can be scanned for codes, in this case it should have a fault code of some kind.

SOURCE: Dies after running about 2 minutes

It's got all the symptoms of a leak in the fuel line. You may want to start backward at the tank and work your way all the way to the carb to find it but it would be surprising if it was something else. All the best.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 ford

Is there a check engine light when it is running? If not, a common problem on these (with no check engine light) is the crankshaft sensor failing-it can run intermittently, or not start at all if it is bad, they run about $35 and are held in by one bolt, usually pretty easy to replace.

Changing fuel filter how do I release the fuel pressure can I unplug the fuel pump I have easy access to it

Just take out the fuel pump fuse, then run engine until it stalls. That's about the same as disconnecting the fuel pump and run engine until it stalls. Just disconnecting the pump will not relieve pressure, as there is a check valve at the pump which holds pressure in the line.
When engine stalls, there will still be some fuel in the line, maybe with a small amount of pressure, so use a rag to catch the fuel spill when you take line off at the filter.

I have Sonata 2002 and my machanic told me there is no replaceble fule filter. But i search and found it is inside the tank.My car has 16000 milage on dash and can somebody suggest me what to do for fuel...

it is about time to replace the fuel filter at 16k miles.
You have to disconnect the whole fuel pump-sending unit module from underneath the rear passenger seat, empty the fuel line by starting the engine with the fuel pump disconnected till it stalls, disconnect fuel lines to and from the fuel filter (which you located), remove filter from its holder, replace it, re attach fuel lines, re connect fuel pump module, and you should be good to go. A final word of advice: whenever working with fuel, disconnect your car battery. Also after doing this procedure check for any fuel leaks while the engine is running.

How to change fuel pump

Disconnect fuel pump fuse, crank until it stalls to depressurize the system. Disconnect straps holding tank underneath. Lower and disconnect fuel lines from the tank assembly. Replace pump, reassemble, reinstall fuse, change filter, and voila. Takes about 2 hours and helps to have 2 people.

I need a diagram of the fuse and relay panel, so i can pull the relay for my fuel pump to change my fuel filter. i have a used 2001 for f250 with the 5.4 liter v8 and it did not have the owners manual when...

The Fuel pump relay for this vehicle is not removable, not smart on Ford's part. What I used to do is disconnect the fuel inertia switch which is located right next to the fuse panel on the passenger side lower kick panel, closest to the firewall. It's tough to get to but can be done. I've seen guys take the inertia switch to pop it then reset it when ready but I'd recommend just disconnecting the connector, and run the engine til it stalls, replace the filter then reinstall connector. The filter can be disconnected without disconnecting the switch by using the fuel clip tool and slowly pulling the line off, allowing pressure to drop but this should be done by an experienced person wearing safety glasses only.

Disconnecting the inertia switch and running the engine til stall could throw a diagnostic code/engine lamp but this can simply be erased by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes. Good luck, please ask if more help is needed.

The car stalled going down the road-fuel filter replaced 6000mi ago -the car turn over won't start

can you hear the fuel pump when you turn the ignition key to start position??( you should hear it start then stop after few sec.) If not, this could be the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay the pump fuse, some bad contact in the wiring of the fuel pump or the worst case the computer.but if you do,unplug your main fuel line to the injector turn the switch to start position again to see if you have some fuel coming out.if not this could be the fuel filter or the fuel pressure switch! hope this will help you...lipak!..
