Replace power steering pump belt for 1990 eagle talon TSI turbo 2.0L DOHC engine

    Hi,

All I want to do is to replace the belt for the pump. What I see is two bolts, in a slotted bracket, that holds the pump, these should be the only two bolts that I need to loosen (I was concerned that there was another bolt that nned to be removed that I could not see). I should not have to remove any fluid lines to do that should I?

    Thanks!

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed to know. Also, thanks for the timely response(s).

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove the pressure switch connector from the side of the pump.
  3. If the alternator is located under the oil pump, cover it with a shop towel to protect it from oil.
  4. Disconnect the return fluid line. Remove the reservoir cap and allow the return line to drain the fluid from the reservoir. If the fluid is contaminated, disconnect the ignition high tension cable and crank the engine several times to drain the fluid from the gearbox.
  5. Disconnect the pressure line.
  6. Remove the pump drive belt and unbolt the pump from its bracket.

To install:
  1. Install the pump, wrap the belt around the pulley and tighten the mounting bolts.
  2. Replace the O-rings and connect the pressure line. Connect the pressure line so the notch in the fitting aligns and contacts the pump's guide bracket.
  3. Connect the return line. Connect the pressure switch connector.
  4. Adjust the belt tension and tighten the adjusting bolts.
  5. Refill the reservoir and bleed the system.
If you would like, I can provide you the information on how I accessed the installation information.

The picture of the diagram may not show, but if you click on the icon that should have been the picture, it should take you to the exploded view of the power steering pump diagram.

That is correct, to replace the belt, you do not need to disconnect any of the hydraulic lines. It shoudl be similar to replacing a radiator belt. My apologies for having misunderstood what you wanted to do.

I hope this helps? Are you missing anything else? Engine cranking you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? Any applicable trouble codes? Battery has a full charge? See load side of mfi relay, that line with arrow head, with key on, good voltage at upper wire? If so, if you use a jumper wire between proper wire colors, the pump should run.

I want to supercharge a eagle talon

No point in doing and would be very expensive.

Superchargers are mainly used on higher powered engines and not 4 cylinders.

Talons are more of a high revving car and why a turbo is best suited.

You will be better off upgrading components for more power and performance than waste time with a supercharger.

If you have a non turbo then make sure you have a good engine, trans and frame before you do anything and really better off buying a TSI AWD factory made and the modify.

they fail sometimes you need to make sure the snail has good bearings ..plus after its been boosting if its been turned off right away thats not good..with higher milage i would do drivability checks before i tear up a wastegate or charger ..your timing should be retarded a bit to boost correctly.
