Check crank sensor (at front of eng. underneath) and/or cam sensor (located in the distributor).

Did you try the distributor? It could also be the ignitor chip.

if it is reving at idol I would be checking my throttle body for air leaks your computer will tell your engine to loop higher, to try and correct the readings it is getting.

Is there power to the coil?? is there spark coming out of the coil? Is coming out of dist cap? could be a distrubutor, pick up, module, rotor? we could guess all day , but it really needs to be checked out.

Do you have spark?, if not, under your coils is a module (like a plate that the coils mount too) That may be the issue.

I have a 1983 Chevy S-10 and have recently replaced the coil and the spark module. I still have no spark. I do however have power to my coil but not to my distributer what do i do?

Is your coil separate from the distributor or in the top of the cap? Check the wires on the pickup coil inside the distributor and make sure they are intact.

Trouble shooting on chevy s-10 2.8 liter v6 pick up truck

sounds like the ground strap to me, it wouldn't be that the wires are in the wrong order that would still give you spark just to the wrong cylinder and believe me you'd know immediatly in that case.

No spark means no contact to the coil plain and simple..
