Question about Toyota Camry

1 Answer

This evening my car decided to go bat-shit crazy. It didn't start right away (rolled over multiple times), but then started, but all the dashboard lights were still on (and it was running very loud). I tried to drive it, but it was seeming "jumpy." Then I turned it it off and even when I took the key out of the ignition it was still running! All of the lights turned off, and some stuff sounded like it stopped under the hood, but there was definitely something still sounding and feeling like it was "rolling over." Then, after 2ish minutes of doing this (with the key still out of the ignition the entire time) it slowly stopped, then light in the car flickered and it all died. Now it wont turn on all, lights wont turn out, windows wont roll up, automatic locks don't work. Nothing. Any ideas what it could be? (Besides hella-expensive to fix) And any suggestions on good mechanics in the CD/Beacon Hill area? (I live off 23rd and Jackson) Car info: -1996 Toyota Camry -Very sporatically it has had issues with starting (but always started after one or two tries) for about the past 5 months -I've had it checked twice in the past 3 months and was told everything was fine under the hood. I had a new air filter, spark plugs, and various other things put in during this time and was told the only thing that would eventually need to be changed was the exhaust pipe. -Even during the times it didn't start right away, once it started it ran with ease.

SOURCE: Car wont start.

I work at a car lot and have experienced alot of numerous electrical problems with this group of Chrysler's.(Intepid, 300m, LHS, Concorde) I hate to say but usually a BCM has fixed my problems. Regarding the alarm i would look into the switch on the back side of the lock cylinder it was a very common problem in the mid 90's era Chryslers, but all in all sounds almost like a BCM. (Body Contol Module) New they are salty but call the dealer and give them the last eight of the vin and tell them you need the ID number for the bcm they should give it to you then browse your local junk yards. GOOD LUCK!

SOURCE: 2002 Monte Carlo wont start

sounds like your passlock sensor on the ignition barrel is faulty. you will have to go to the dealer to have it replaced because of the programming after replacement.

Problem number one sounds like a dead battery to me. Problem with driver door is the cable in your window regulator is broken and bound up. Will need to replace the regulator. Passenger side window problem could be caused by a number of things... most common that come to mind are window guide not in correct position or one of the bolts that hold the window to the regulator has come loose.

SOURCE: car steering wheel locked; car won't start

If this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.

SOURCE: 91 toyota camry problem ignition switch problem?

If you can pull the key out of the ignition while it is running then the key is probably worn out. If you have a spare key use it or have a new key cut. As far as the fuse box not having any power look for a main fuse that comes off the battery to the fuse box. There has to be a main fuse blown, fusible link burned out, or a loose wire somewhere. You really should not try to "ghetto rig" starting the car or you can short out components all the vehicle.
