SOURCE: crank shaft sensor

I have 10 years experience in a Nissan dealership and I know without a shadow of a doubt that the Crankshaft Position Sensor is NOT located next tp the crank pulley... it is rather at the other end of the engine near where the transmission bellhousing bolts to the engine block. It is on the side toward the firewall near the bottom. Even if you can get the vehicle on a lift and get under it, you can't really see it... It's more of a feel thing... There was a campaign (recall) on these engines to replace Crank Position and also Cam Postion sensors. Check with your dealer- the campaign might be open. You will need your VIN number when you call.

SOURCE: location of crank sensor on renault megane 1.6, 2004

bit confused...the cranksensor will be on the gearbox housing the camsensor will be near the cams not the gearbox if the camsensor has packed up it wont start but if it packs up while driving the engine will run untill you stop it then it wont start,a cranksensor could cause the engine to stop at anytime if it fails..your problem could be the idle air control valve or a timing related issue..

SOURCE: Rain Sensor wipers Renault Megane

Either the replacement sensor the windscreen technician should have fitted isnt connected properly to the glass or it has developed an intermittant fault - quite common with Renaults especially megane scenics and grand scenics....

My renault megane cuts out while driving then wont start again for a day or so. checked injectors alternator and ecu and still cant find the cause

The most likely cause is the crank shaft sensor (what some also call the TDC - 'top dead centre". Look up TDC or crank shaft sensor, and you will find videos about how to locate it. Go get it replaced immediately, and the chances are your car will run perfectly fine.
