Could be a damaged steering idler they cab do that. or a damaged track rod ball joint. failing them it could be the rack its self. if you have been moving the steering with out the engine running it can damage the steering rack.

I have an 03 chevy s10 pick up. 2wd. When I turn the steering wheel 1/3 of an inch it sounds like a knock or something is loose. Also my tire makes a weird loose sound when driving. Any idea on what it can...

Bad wheel bearing/ ball joints/ tie rods
If lugs on wheel r tight
Could b control arm bushings also
Can b many different things..
Jack car up and give wheel a shake side to side..get play then tie rod most likely
Up and down play then most likely balljoint
Both then either both or wheel bearing
Wheel bearing will have the same amount of play in each direction
If u get some strange play then look at control arm and checkh for playe

Knocking noise

Wow this one's tough without being there...it could be either one that you mentioned, does it make the sound when driving or setting still. If it sounds like it's up high like in the dash, maybe a bearing that supports the steering column. Best thing would be to get it up on a lift and turn the steering wheel and look for the sound under the car to see where it's coming from..could be the rack teeth but most likely a bearing...good luck hunting

Excessive play in the steering wheel, car is all over the road. What could this be?

The steering gear box is worn out. And, there's probably worn front suspension components adding to the problem. You will need to check the following parts for looseness or movement: Idler Arm, Upper and Lower Ball Joints, Control Arm Bushings, Pitman Arm, Inner and Outer Tie Rod Ends, Front Hub Bearings. All of these can be replaced in your driveway with the exception of the Control Arm Bushings which are pressed in and require special tools to remove and install the bushings. If you can't replace all of them, concentrate your efforts on the following: Steering Box, Idler arm, and Control Arm Bushings. If you can afford to have all of them done, the front suspension would be factory fresh and should, with proper wheel alignment, drive like a new car.

When I turn the car to the right it will make a knocking sound. What could be causing this?

Two things come to mind: 1) A frozen ball joint in the steering arm, 2) A defective steering rack. Make sure power steering fluid is topped, if you hear a whining noise while turning.

I feel and hear a knocking in my steering wheel when turning or going over bumps

It sounds like you have either a loose ball joint or something loose in your steering. watch the steering while someone turns in back and forth. Look for any play. The idler arm is the notorious part on GM trucks. If you have to replace any steering part other than the idler arm or the pitman arm, you will have to have the front end aligned. If the steering all looks good, jack it up one side at a time with the jack under the lower control arm and try to rock the tire with your hands at 12 and 6 o'clock. Next, use a prybar to try to "lift" the tire. This checks the ball joints. If there is any play rocking it, they are bad. If there is more than a little (1/4" or less) play with the prybar, they are bad. Of course, use caution jacking and be sure to place a jackstand so it will catch the truck if it should slip off of the jack or the jack fail. Good luck.

Knocking sound from my steering rack

Check the tie rod ends and control arms for wear - any of those parts being loose can cause it. When do you hear the noise? That'll help narrow it down.
