Check the adjustment on the steering column shift mechanism. Loosen of the adjustment or linkage and place in park then re tension the linkage.

SOURCE: My 97 F250 wont shift out of park? Engine starts,

most likely your brake switch is out. If you had a scanner you would be able to see if the computer see's you pressing on the pedal. Or if you know how to test you could check to see if it switches ( completes the circuit ).

SOURCE: I have been having troube putting the gear shift

You will need to remove the steering wheel column cover toward the instrument cluster to access your shifter assembly. it should have 3-4 screws from the bottom side. Most of them are black plastic. It has the shifter and the ignition go thru it. There you should find the shifter housing wore out or your shifter end broken. Very common on these trucks. Especially with people leaving there hand on the shifter while driving. it wears it out. There is a shaft assembly that houses the shifter. It has a pin thru it and is made of pot metal. They wear out often! it would be best for you to call me after disassembly to see what you need. If you need to replace the shaft assembly for the shifter arm it is a bigger job requiring you to drop the steering column down to access the torx screws holding it in. It also has the electric foot control on it. You know the part that makes you have to put your foot on the brake to shift out of park! I have used parts for them and i do ship as well. I am on here with my bisiness ALL TRUCKS 623.826.6329 I just listed on here with my business profile so please make sure you rate this. I am on here as a guru with ford expert badge with another user name but am trying to get my business name caught up! Thanks

SOURCE: Is there an adjustment on a 1999 suburban steering gear box

Yes there are Pitman shaft over-center preload and worm thrust bearing preload. There are special procedures and tools needed for both of these and the steering gear needs to be out of vehicle and drained.Hope this helps.

1999 GMC Sierra stuck in drive. What do I do?

First off, set the parking brake, raise vehicle so you can get under it. Remove the shift linkage from the transmission and manually move the shift lever to park. Then try moving the shift mechanism inside the car to park and then through each gear (engine off of course). See if the mechanism sticks, if so, probably a broken tab on the locking mechanism for the shift lever in the steering column. If it moves freely, try the lever on the transmission back and forth through the gear range to see if it sticks. If it sticks, or you can't initially move it by hand, you have a transmission problem that requires trained individuals to fix. If it moves freely also, try lubing the cable with silicone spray at all contact points, especially where it enters and exits any cable sheathing. (spray into sheathing well) If both move freely independent of each other, it may just have been in a bind, put both shifter and tranny lever in park and reattach the shift cable, Then try the gear range again from inside the vehicle.

I recently got a automatic 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500. Right away I had to get a new steering column. It has always been a little difficult to shift (pulling it down from park to reverse, drive etc). To

check the shift adjustment at the bottom of the steering column as it may have slipped or be slipping. Check the linkage on the side of the box

How do I replace a K2500 Suburban broken gear shift handle?

Disassembly of the column to get to the shift lever connection includes removing the air bag. Because there is a real hazard involved, this is not a job for the DIYer.

Hello, This vehicle should not be able to be shifted from park if the key is not in the ignition. If it can be there is a problem with the shift interlock system in the steering column. Thank You
