Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 2008 Dodge Avenger stalls and jerks forward every morning when I am leaving for work. It's like it is sticking, it's trying to go but can't. Then when it finally gets free it jerks forward. If I have to stop for anything within the next couple of minutes, it will repeat itself. After that the whinding starts and continues throughout the day but not the jerking. What could be wrong with my car. If I stop within 2-3 minutes, it will repeat the same thing. I also hear a whining noise in the front. After the 2nd jerk, it doesn't jerk anymore for the rest of the day. But continues to whind the rest of the day.

first scan for any codes if it comes up po 300 just a guess it could be random misfire puts the car in limp mode . the igniton modual underneath the coil pacs the coils sit on could be redy to go or if not that check fule pressure by puting fule pressure guage on shrader valve located on fuel rail on top of injector assembly and check fule pressure with fule pressure guage. car of key on pump reading should be around 48-55 key on car on reading should be around 55.minus -3 to 10psi = reading of 38 to45 only if the fule regulator has vacume line atached to it on fule rail dubble check psi reqirments in car manual for co mpleat accuracy. If it doeint have vacume line pressure stays constant 48- 55psi

2008 Dodge Avenger that is surging and stalling

Normally I would say take it to the dealer, but not in this case. The problem could still be connected to the crank sensor circuit. Its possible the computer is having trouble with the timing.
Someone would need to figure out if the number one cylinder is firing and the injector is opening at the right time. It could also be a problem with the timing belt or camshaft. Even the computer.
You may want to look for another garage thats able to diagnose the problem.

Where is the alternator fuse on a 2008 dodge avenger?

look in the fuse block, driver's side, forward corner of engine bay under the hood. I think the lid on the little box has the diagram underneath it, to locate the alternator fuse. Check all your fuses there, too.
I think the small plug-in connector with two wires on the alternator would be for the voltage regulator, wouldn't it?

My 2008 dodge avenger jerks when i come to a stop any idea what it could be.?

Jerks coming to a stop as in engine jerks, or does it seem like the brakes are jerking. When you leave off the pedal does it stop jerking? If it does it is probably warped rotors. A lot of new cars have this problem, my theory is that the brake pads they are using are way too hard. They put way too much heat into the rotor and warp it. Of course the rotors are none too heavy either. I think it is all in an effort to reduce weight in the vehicle.

2008 Dodge Avenger check engine light

Not sure if this will work for you but worth a shot. I own a 2005 dodge neon. I know the ecu's are different but maybe dodge was smart and made all the cars this way. Insert you key into ignition. Turn key forward until you are at the last position right before the car starts to crank over. Repeat this for a total of three times then on your digital odometer display, you will see a set of numbers displayed. this will be your code for the malfanction(s) that set your check engine light. Like I said, it might not work on your car but give it a shot. If not, rent an obdII scanner and get your codes. Then you know where to start looking to fix your problem.

2008 Dodge Avenger. Cannot shift gear out of

first thing I check is if the brake lights work.

a trick that works on some cars is turn the key to one notch before "run", shift into neutral and start. then take it to the dealer, it's under warranty, right?

2008 Dodge Avenger SE oil pressure light?

Don't worry about the oil pressure light, they key was on, the engine was running and suddenly stalled, the system saw it as low oil pressure on a running engine situation and warned U, it is not the cause of the stall, the stall is most likely related to the following.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
