Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

The A/C fan in my 04 Grand Prix will NOT shut off.

...unless I disconnect the battery. I pulled every fuse and relay in an attempt to shut it off, but it would not. Also, the fan speed dial contol did nothing; it runs at maximum speed regardless. I am confident it's in the electircal system wiring. the dealership is not an option in the short term. next steps?

CLICK HERE for a schematic of your blower.

Your blower is not shutting off - so your BMCP (Blower Motor Control Processor) has malfunctioned... or the HVAC Control Module has failed.

Both provide power to the blower motor.

To check which one has failed - pull the HVAC control fuse RADIO/HVAC/RFA/CLSTR/ALDL (15Amp) and see if the fan shuts off - if not - try the BMCP fuse HI/BLWR (30Amp) - Both are listed listed at the top of the schematic.

Any high power in the car will have a 12V relay such as alternators and battery. The clicking sound is your alternator relay, it's a eletical/mechanical device for switching. Check out your relay in the fuse box, most likely it's defective in stuck ON position.

Pull the relay in the fuse box or remove the connector on the temperature coolant sensor. These two items have to be tested as per the directions in the vehicle's shop manual. Furthermore the circuitry and the ECU must be tested as well. Good luck

Blower moter stuck on hi pulled fuse to stop smoke. now got no hi speed just 1 to 4 on dial. fuse says hihavc1

Replace your Hi blower fan relay and inspect your wire harness. Common for the Hi blower fan relay to over heat and short out causing for the fan to stay on hi without any other controls unless you full the fuse as you did and it's a good thing for it's know to cause car fires.
Thank you for using Fixya and replace the relay and inspect the wire harness for any melted wires that can cause a short. Good luck

2004 pontiac gran prix-heater fan will not shut off, even with the ignition shut off, unless you pull the fuse for the main battery. tHE FAN STOPS RUNNING, BUT THE BATTERY STILL GOES DEAD.

There is a common problem of a resistor burning out I believe it is on the pax side of the car in the engine bay.

Here is the part. http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=842&catid=107

04 G35 Cooling Fan Relay Location? Not it the fuse box near the batt.

The Relays (3 of them) are located behind the Battery... between Battery and Fender, inside a Box call Inteligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM). And, as far as I know, the Relays are not sold separetly.

Find relay and give it a tap, to see if that helps. Not sure on that if its along drivers fender under hood or not, but listen for click from small 1"x1" roughly relay attached somewhere in engine compartment area, firewall, fender area.
