Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Am

Difficulty pumping gas in my 1996 Chrylser Seabring.

I think the gas nozzles are shorter and therefore the pump stops often. It takes 5 minutes to pump $5 worth of gas.

1996 GRAND AM PROBLEM DISCOVER NO GAS PRESURE IN

It is either out of gas,and the gauge is wrong,or the fuel pump has gone out,the sound does not always mean the pump is pumping, just that the motor made with the pump is running, pump still could be bad.

When you try to fill up with gas the pump will shut off

what part of the country are you in?
you could have two things happening....
IN areas like California teh pump handle has a black cover over the nozzle.. this traps escaping fuel fumes while you fill your tank.. if you do not have enough pressure it will stop the pump..
If this is not the case.. it could be simply the design of your filler neck in the car... and you get a bottle neck that causes the nozzle to think the car is full.. simply do not put the nozzle fully in the car.. try backing it our a bit so that you do not create a bottle neck... kinda like pouring out soda from a bottle.. tilt it too much and it slows down the flow.

get the filler hose checked out as it may have a spring inside it to hold its shape or something has been dropped inside restricting it!

1996 Chrysler Sebring fuel pump automatic shut off

It sounds like the vent hose or tube from the fuel tank to the side of the inlet assembly is restricted. It can be twisted or bent. I've seen one case where it was misrouted and smashed against the frame rail. The vent tube allows air to escape while filling with fuel.

I starting to have trouble pumping gas in my car

Try to only insert the nozzle a short ways into your tank. Sometimes the air excaping from your gas tank can make the gas splash back to the nozzle. This will cause the pump to stop, so just try not to insert it to deep and that should FixYa.
