Question about 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK

1 Answer

Chirp Squeel from fully released clutch

1999 Mercedes SLK Kompressor
Bought this car a year ago as I wanted to learn how to drive stick and it has been a really fun car. (kept the Jeep Grand Cherokee for when I need more room)
60,000 miles on it in great shape but over the past few months has started squeaking when the clutch is all the way out....if I press the clutch 10% in it stops instantly. Its not a constant but rather sounds like its tied to a wheel/belt looping type process. It sort of reminds me of a grocery store cart wheel in that it makes the sound with the revolution of something. I am not super into cars so I am looking for a short list of its probably X, Y or Z. I did buy a solid extended warranty but still don't know if this will be covered. I am hoping its not a scary off warrantee repair. It is just annoying enough that it is bothersome if I pull up and its not getting better. :)

Thx for the help.

Based on your post, your problem sounds like a clutch throwout bearing problem. Depending upon what your warranty covers, it may or not be a free repair . Clutches are usually listed as a "wear item" (like brakes). The throwout bearing itself cannot be removed without taking the transmission out of the car. If It is the bearing, the problem will worsen and do damage to the clutch itself.

How do i turn off the passenger airbag on an slk 2.3 kompressor

What year is the car. As of about 1999 there is a sensor in the passenger seat that will only turn the airbag on if there is someone larger than an infant in the seat. Otherwise there isn't really a way to turn the airbag off.

I need the radio code for my mercedes slk230. The battery died and now the code needs to be reset, but I don't have the old code... The radio serial no. is: AL 3198 X 01 14028 This is in a 1999 MB...

Radio code is specific for each and every car. It is specific like anti theft code.

You can get it by providing your VIN# and registration details in authorized dealership.
Nobody else can provide you. If anybody can provide you that , then there is no meaning of security for your car.

1999 slk 230 kompressor convertible top sticks halfway down, hydralic fluid looks brown is it possible fluid needs to be changed?

no the fluid doesn't need to be changed. it most likely is not seeing one of the micro-switches for the convertible top or the windows are not syncronized meaning the one touch/express mode is not working. to sync windows just open and close windows using the 1st detent on the window switch. when the window is fully closed hold switch for 3secs longer. as for the micro-switches the wiring sometimes breaks behind the headliner.

Depends how it was released to raise it. Sound like a pin was released and the attached piece is moving around.

Kompressor not kicking in.

CHECK TO SEE IF AC COMPRESSOR GETTING POWER IF NOT CHECK COMPRESSOR CLUTCH WIRES FOR DAMAGE.AND CHECK THE FRONT SAM CONTROL MODULE FUSES AND RELAYS. AND A OPEN REFRIGERANT PRESSURE TEMPERATURE SENSOR WILL CAUSE TO AC COMPRESSOR NOT TO COME ON.IF YOU ARE GETTING POWER AT THE COMPRESSOR.EITHER COMPRESSOR CLUTCH COILS IS OPEN.OR YOUR REFRIGERANT SYSTEM TOO LOW.

Just but an Mercedez SLK 230 Kompressor 1999 and the hard top will not go down.

First check that you have oil on the hydraulic pump that it is inside the trunk on the rear right fender the oil should be between the marks. If thats ok check when you put the ignition on if the switch that operates the roof is on, should be off, on means that something is wrong, if blinks 6 times one of the 5 or 7 switchs are not closed, check one by one. check the two that close the trunk at the middle, the cover, the trunk limit switch, the trunk switch

I am looking for a replacement alternator. Mine

There are many parts places. We are here to help you in repair not finding parts.

You don't say if you want used or new parts. The Kompressor car is a very complicated automobile and most likely well above your expertise so please be careful if you intended to attempt this repair at home as one slight misjudgment and the turbine can be ruined for life.

I would just google for the part you need.

Sticking roof

This symptom almost always points to a lubrication issue. The SLK hardtop is notorious for needing to belubricated every couple of years. Here is a link with directions andphotos:
