When was your last tune up? Check the spark plugs.

Testimonial: "change plugs no help. Here's the story, Mazda Service tested and said throttle body needs replacement. Changed it, did not help at all. The next item they said was the PCM/ computer was going out. We did not do that for Mazda review forums. Seems like there is this problem in past but real fix is unknown and the computer was not the answer. The car runs great till you accelerate to about 2100-2200 then the tac starts jumping and cutting out trying to stay there. The ODB code said P0340 cam sensor but no dice as well, replaced it, did not work. any more suggestions?"

SOURCE: Engine Cuts out at 3500 RPM

Sounds like you need to replace the MAF sensor its the unit on toyota vehicles that calulates how much Air intake is going into the throttle body and then sends a signal to the ECU of your car which adjusts your Fuel injector compensation. When your MAF Sensor is malfunctioning it will throw the fuel curves out of wack and cause your car to what mechanics call "lean out" or "running rich" its basically your getting too little or too much fuel at higher RPM's and the motor is choking from too much fuel and not enough air. Hope this helps let me know if it doesnt so i can continue to troubleshoot for you via internet

SOURCE: wants to stall at idle.

Here is the most common cause of this stall, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

SOURCE: 2003 mazda 6 heater has stopped working

Air Temperature Control Blend Door Failure No Heat or no AC (dependes on where door sticks)

In all modern cars there is a tiny DC electric motor driven gear drive that moves a plastic door that blends heated and cooled air from the AC and the heater core, this is called (interestedly enough) the air temperature control blend door actuator. The motor that moves this door fails because the door starts sticking from warping, most common complaint is no heat but it can be no AC as well. To replace these parts (blend door and blend door actuator) you must remove the entire dash from the car. Always have this problem confirmed by a dealer or qualified repair shop as it is a very expensive repair.

Other causes of no heat in the cabin are engine thermostats that are stuck open (engine runs cold) or air bubbles in the cooling system.

2003 protege surges in rpm

When you say " surges in rpm" you mean it surges when you give it gas, press down on the accelerator. It could any one of a dozen reasons for this; dirty air filter, dirty gas filter, foiled spark plugs, ignition problems, faulty fuel regulator faulty speed sensor, etc. Have the car's computer scanned for trouble codes which will identify where the problem is. Auto Zone and Advance Auto will do a scan.

2003 Mazda Tribute sputters at 4000 rpm while in park and neutral, Is this normal? I heard that the rev limiter kicks off at this rpm

You would have to do some research to answer that
You could have an rpm limiter & should
The question is-- why would you bring the rpm up
to more than 3000 in park,no test requires more than that
You will some day ruin a motor doing so,unless it is a race car

Hi, unfortunately your voltage regulator is controlled by the PCM. If the 120 amp charge fuse is good and the alternator is good; then the PCM is probably bad, as your mechanic is suggesting.
