Question about 2007 Hyundai Sonata Limited Sedan

1 Answer

2007 Hyundai Sonata started clicking only when warmed up. The noise started immediately after changing alternator. It did not do this before. The noise is constant and rhythmic when the engine is warm. It increases with increased RPM and decreases in the same manner. Possibly a bearing?

Depending on where you got the alt it could be defective, I've gotten them and they haven't event charged. i'd take it back and have them listen to it so they know that its a bad part.

Thanks for your comment, Ed. We wondered if it could possibly be the alternator. The car is running fine and the new alternator is keeping the battery charged. We bought it online (saved $100) in doing so. This is the downside of buying online. :(

SOURCE: replacing rear wheel bearings on 1999 hyundai sonata

  1. for drum brakes with sealed hub(all one piece) remove lug nuts and wheel.
  2. spray penetrating oil around studs if there is a big phillips head screw visible remove it with impact driver/if not use big ballpeen hammer ,tap on flat of drum near studs(becareful not to hit them) until drum loosens(your creating a shockwave to loosen rust)
  3. once drum is off there are 4-bolts coming in from behind backing plate, remove them then hub should be able to be removed w/a little persuation from hammer.
with out sealed hub ,
  1. remove wheel
  2. remove dust cap, cotterpin, star washer(if equipped) do not re use cotter pin
  3. remove nut then washer, wiggle brake drum and front bearing will come out.
  4. put nut on shaft tighten 2-3 turns grab drum by sides and pull towards you this should remove drum leaving inner bearing/seal on shaft
  5. to replace reverse procedure making sure to pack new bearings w/grease(take drum and use long punch to remove bearing races, use race/seal installer to install new races
with disk brakes

  1. remove wheel
  2. remove caliper/bracket
  3. remove rotor
  4. remove 4-bolts from behind, tap old hub out
  5. reverse procedure

SOURCE: accelerated clicking/knocking noise when i start driving

sounds like your CV joints are worn out. If the clicking noise gets worse when turning then its a definite possibility. Also check the CV joint boots for splits as this can quickly wear them out. The dust mixes with the grease to form a grinding paste.

SOURCE: key is stuck in ignition in 2007 hyundai sonata

The problem is in the tumbler(s) inside the assembly. Before you do anything, try penetrating oil to see if that works... otherwise, the entire assembly will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: "Humming" or "bearing" type noise in left front at highway speeds

That's a hub bearing. Replace the one that's doing it. I'm assuming this 'roar' is coming from the front, NOT the rear.
