Question about 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

1 Answer

Starter issues. Just dead air.

Battery new. All lights, inside and out, come on. Turn the key .. nothing. No grinding. Just dead air. I've always had trouble with the key turning. Could it just be something to do with that? But I'm thinking the starter. Finances are very limited. Dead in my driveway, so I can't take it anywhere. Please help.

SOURCE: can't remove key from ignition. battery is dead

If the battery is dead, the ignition keys will not release from the ignition. If there is no signal from the transmission shifter that it's in park since the battery is dead, then the ignition lock will not release the keys.  After charging the battery or jumping the blazer to start it and the key's still will not release, try this.
There is a "plunger" as part if the ignition. Under the steering wheel there is a small removable cap that you can take off and put a small screw driver up into and press the plunger in and it will release the key. Good luck and hope this helps, Keep me posted be glad to help.

did you replace the solenoid as well? double check battery cable connections and make sure it is metal on metal contact. If that turns out ok, then it may be relay or switch.

Have your alternator tested.Your car will not stay running if the alternator is not producing enough power to keep the battery charged. Also have your battery tested and fully charged.Make sure your cables are in good shape.

When I turn key I get click but will not start

I single click typically indicates a bad starter solenoid and a new starter will generally fix the problem.

I series of rapid clicks when the key is held in the crank positon usually indicates a weak or dead battery. a new battery will usually solve this issue.

A bad connection at the battery can also cause a single click but typically the whole car will go dead for a brief period and then everything will again turn on. Cleaning the battery terminals will typically resolve this issue.

Cut car off now its doin nothing won't click won't do anything

The first thing to check is the battery. Turn on the inside dome light. If it fails to light, then check the battery itself for voltage. If it is totally dead, then have the charging system checked. The battery seldom dies completely unless there is a bigger issue, such as a bad alternator. If the dome light works, with it on, try turning the key to the start position. One of three things should happen.

1. The light goes completely out, and nothing else happens. This may still be a battery issue. The starter requires a considerable amount of current to activate, and a dead battery will prevent this. The car would cut off once the battery voltage drains below approximately 8 volts.

2. The light stays the same brightness. This would mean that the starter circuit is malfunctioning, since the current needed to start the car should make the light dim slightly during cranking.

3. The light dims slightly. If this occurs without any other indications, it could be a bad starter. Usually the solenoid kicks in, engaging the starter to the flywheel. This action starts the starter motor turning. If there is some issue with the starter solenoid, it could be trying to engage, but not successfully.

Of the three issues above, my best guess would be #1. You my have had a bad alternator or regulator diode and discharged the battery below the level to operate the vehicle. The battery may be able to be recharged, but its life would be shortened considerably. The real issue is to fix the charging problem. This is usually an alternator or regulator (if the regulator is separate from the alternator).

Car won't start, seems to have power, all lights working. when I turn the key nothing happens. this only happens sometimes

Could be a bad alternator.. It may not be holding charge. Or your starter could have failed.

Though I've had the same problem and it was a dead battery in my vehicle. Had enough power, but to keep the car on..

Double check the battery positive connection wiring carefully as it commonly has connection problems when the battery is changed.

Are there any main fuses on a 2001 plymouth neon

Have you checked the starter solenoid. Your battery + cable connects to this then + cable runs from it to your starter. You also have an ignition switch wire connected to this. Just follow your cable from the battery and it will lead you right to the part. Some times these will break inside or the contacts go bad inside and therefore you will not get power to start the engine, but you will have power to turn on lights or whatever other accessories. The part is about $15

95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.
