Engine start Bendix still engaged put into any gear Bendix disengages can go back to park there will be no more problem

if your saying your starter stays engaged after starting engine till you cycle thru the gears , your starter needs serviced , most likely a worn bendix pivot bushing

two options 4 repair
1= replace starter
2= remove starter and have it professionally rebuilt then reinstall it

You may have a starter relay sticking, next time it happends tap on your starter relay with some kind of small hamer, or something like that.

Bad starter or the solenoid on the starter replace before you damage the teeth on the flywheel

1995 Taurus. Starter will not disengage. Engine cranks, but will not turn over.

Find the starter relay under the hood. It may be bad and stuck so power continues going to the starter. Try a new relay Or try pulling off the small signal wire on the relay (it is from the switch), and hook battery up. If starter continues to run, the relay is bad. If starter is stopped, put the signal wire back on relay. If starter now starts operating, and key is still off, then switch may be bad .Location of relay may be at left front fender apron, in front of shock tower (like on earlier taurus models).

My 1988 ford F 150 when i start it the truck starts but the starter grinds like the bendicks is not disengaging the starter is good. It is like the ignition is still telling the starter to start. I think...

I guess what your doing is disconnecting the battery to stop the starter from grinding, on the starter solenoid sit on the fire wall there a small wire that just plug's into the solenoid that wire come's from the ignition switch, disconnect it connect battery if starter till stays engage it's not the switch it's the starter, also try checking voltage at that small wire should only have voltage with key to start only, also try hitting the starter some time that will disengage it, but more then likely bad starter, good luck, hope this was very helpful.

The starter for my ford 460 stays running after gear is disengaged only have power to solenoid when key is in start position when the truck is shut off one can hear the starter whining down after shutting...

There is a spring in the starter that should cause it to disengage after the electricity is removed. Double check that the electricity is removed form the starter side of the solenoid, cause that is the easiest thing to check first. Then take the starter off and have it checked for free at your local auto store. If it seems OK to them it may be the starter is not the right one for the bell housing. If it sticks in to far, the starter gear may be stuck partly in the flywheel.

96 pontiac grand am 2.4 starter doesnt stay engaged

Check that the flywheel is not missing any teeth. Also check the geartip at the starter where it kicks into the flywheel for wear at the tip.
