If the journals look good and meet wear tolerances, it is an unnecessary expense to replace the crank.

How can I be sure if my PCM is bad???

I would try disconnecting battery again. Disconnect both cables and touch them together for a few seconds. This will reset all modules. Wierd that you had so many codes after just disconnecting battery. Sometimes very hard to tell if ecm is bad.

My 2006 KIA Sorento won't idle and is pecking!! I just had 3 ignition coils put in and new spark plugs because of the same problem!! It ran great for a week, then the engine died at a red light!! When I...

SOUNDS LIKE the throttle position sensor (tps) (will cause surging), or mass air sensor (mas) if equipped (or your equivalent) Unplugging the mass air sensor will cause the computer to switch to limp home mode, which will clean up the idle till you replace the sensor, ( usually located on the air intake tube or at the air cleaner) These are sometimes on the ame circuit as the crank sensor (picked up on the scanner), but the coils and crank are totally the wrong direction. On a 99 nissan altima it has 2 timing chain covers, a top one then a bottom one. Do I need to take off the bottom one to get the chains off right and to get the head off the eng?

Yes. If you dont take both(the top and the bottom) you could get the chain caught on something. It would be much safer to take both ends off. Plus you will have to reset the timing on the car anyways, and in order to do that, you have to line up the marks on the crankshaft. Hope this helps. James Booth. The pecking sound does not sound like a rod or anything in the motor itself, the sound seems to be coming from under the motor towards the transmission. The pecking is quite loud while the vehicle is...

I had this same problem about 6 years ago and it drove me nuts,, I separated the transmission from the motor and found that one of the flywheel bolts had worked its way out and was sitting in the bottom of the bell housing and the flywheel was hitting it as it turned. this is something that I have only seen once in all my years of working on vehicles,, so it is a long shot -- but from what you said - it sounds like the problem that I was having.

huh bottom is easier, you can thru the top but youll end up breaking sendors, harness etc, its better to drop the bottom chassis with tires and tranny all togher an lift the front end and seperated it at bottom.

87 Lebaron Keeps flooding out and won't start What is the problem?

hello, sounds like you need a new carb, or replace the float in the one you have, float goes bad, sometimes they get a little hole in the float, and it will fill with gas, and the float will not rise to turn gas off, you might peck on carb a little to see if float is stuck, also check make sure choke flap is not staying shut, you can get somebody to hold it open while crankig engine to see if it starts, you may have to hold gas pedal to floor untill it cranks up, be carefull not to get anybody hurt while holding choke flap on top of carb,

jack up wheel
grab top and bottom of wheel and flex(shimmy) back and forth to feel if loose.

Had oil changed on 6-2-08 and now have a knocking sound in the motor

Wrong oil filter. The one that was installed didn't have a anti-feed back valve in it. Most of the newer motors need that valve in the filter to keep oil from draining back into the eng oil pan.
Fast lube places don't stock the best of filters. Only their own or the cheapest ones. Not what the vechile makers call for. Get with your BBC or Consumer Agency to see what they say.
