Sue Hanna, What do you mean by this? Do you mean when your Tachometer revs to the 6-8 range, the lights go red? or are they going on all the time? Is this something that just started?

Specifically I'm trying to identify the wire on the spark plug coil assembly to which I should connect the signal wire of a Tachometer to. The wire colours are, red, yellow, green/white, and blue.

I just replaced the coil pack on 2002 f150 4.2l 6 cylinder and it won't start....not getting any spark but it shows that its getting power on the voltage meter


crankshaft position sensor possibly . The red an lite green wire is the B+ (battery voltage ) The other three wires are control from the engine computer . Do you have a automotive electrical test light ? You can test for control by hooking up test light (Clip end) to battery positive terminal an have someone crank the engine while you touch the point end to each of the control wires . The test light should flicker , if not the crank sensor is more then likely bad >

The speedometer is operated differently then the tachometer. Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in revolutions per minute (RPM). Voltage pulses are taken from the ignition control module (ICM) (Gasoline) or the generator (Diesel) and sent to the tachometer. Solid state circuits convert the pulse frequency in order to move the pointer of the tachometer.

How to wire the tachometer


Red goes to the ignition switch fuse for power in the fuse box green goes to the the negative side of the distributor white is for the tachs light so it will go to the dash light fuse in the fuse box and black is for the ground.

Hello,
Tachometers generally always attach in the same way, that is, there are 4 wires: red = a switched-on ( hot only when car is running)12 volt source, black = suitable good ground, green = trigger ( the negative side of the distributor or coil), yellow or remaining color is for the light bulb in the tach for night time driving.
Attach the yellow to a wire that has power when your lights go on such as a instrument wire. It is advise able to use a 12 volt circuit tester to probe wires.

Im trying to instal my tach on my 99 hyundai accent hatchback witch wire on the coil that i connect too


The "Green" wire from the after-market tachometer will connect to the (-) negative side of the ignition coil.

The "Red" wire from the tachometer will connect to an ignition source that has power only when the key is in the "Run" and "Start" position, usually at a "IGN" source on the fuse panel.

The "Yellow" or "White" wire from the tachometer will connect to the instrument panel lighting fuse in the fuse panel usually marked "LPS" or "IP" and there should be a source next to the instrument panel lighting fuse to connect the wire.

The "Black" wire should be connected to a good body ground, and if the tachometer is not properly grounded anyone sitting in the vehicle while the engine is running will receive a mild electric shock from the ignition coil primary voltage whenever anything metal inside of the vehicle is touched.

2003 E350 tach pickup wire??


Tachometer Wire Negative Wire (-): Any Wire That Is Note Red/Light Green. The diesel tach wire is a green/white wire, located in a 5-pin harness held up with tape behind the parking brake release.
