Let me addd more: Whatever work they did, it would run 20 or 30 miles just fine, then fail again. They replaced the Throttle positioning sensor, but to no avail. Still fails, is sitting at my house now.

When accelerating, it is full throttle, or no throttle, there is no in between until you get to 4th gear where the effects are minimal., but still there.

SOURCE: timing belt or chain

Ummmm woahhh hold up here...every 2.7 litre V6 i've been associated with had timing CHAINS. The chains ran the water pump and dual over head camshafts.
The 2.7l engine was manufactured by Mitsubishi for Chrysler and had an internal water pump with defective seals that allowed coolant to leak & mix with the oil causing severe sludging problems and eventual engine FAILURE...This has been a nightmare for Chrysler AND OWNERS !
MANY owners have contacted ISG Impartial Services Group 1-(866)332-3746 for a settlement with Chrysler
Attached is a cutaway view of the 2.7 litre, and as you can clearly see it is chain driven.
I've been a MOPAR enthusiast all my life...sadly, this engine was one of the worst to ever hit the streets.
Good luck Doug...i hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2002 Ford Escape V6. Oil indicator light on, but pressure holds.

My 2002 Ford Escape had exactly the same problem as described. Dealer replace oil pressure sending unit (oil pressure switch) and problem still existed while leaving dealer about 3 miles away. I took the car back to the dealer again in two days and the oil pressure light kept of blinking sporatically all the way to the dealer. Dealer checked connections and they drove the car around and the oil pressure light never came on. I picked the car up from the dealer and I've had no problems with the oil pressure light flashing. I wonder if there is a microprocesser in the oil pressure sending unit which has to be given some time to be recalibrated to the cars main computer module?

Timing belt broke on hyundai sonata 2002 what should I do? The mechanic saya theres a ten percent chance that replacing the belt will solve the problem.

You have had contact with a mechanic

Why are you asking for advise or a personal

Wasn't all your thoughts & questions answered?

Is the car still at the shop waiting on your authorization
to continue

We need that kind of info.

We're not experts that even know if your engine is
an interferance type, you have to tell us. That is why
I guess the mechanic is expecting major damage from
a broken belt

The shop still has to look inside the cylinders with the
proper camera they probalby don't have or ever heard
of ,to look for damage

They have to do a cylinder leak down test for valve damage

If everything is good & you got lucky, then you replace the
water pump, all idler pulleys, tensioners & the broken belt

Besides an oil & filter change what preventive maintenance should be done on my 2002 nissan xterra with 115,000 miles

Things to have inspected..... Belts, air/cabin filters, pcv/evap/canister valves, brake/steering/trans/diff fluids, coolant, spark plugs (if not done around 90K)... I would check for any oil leaks or any seals that looks like they are corroding and may start to leak soon. Lastly, make sure the timing belt/chain has been replaced! If timing belts start to wear and snap, most likely you will have internal engine failure and damage..... If you can get through all this to make sure everything looks good, you will be in great shape... Then just keep up with it! Hope this helps.

I have a Volvo S60 T5 2002. I have not done the maintenance after the 100,000 miles. Can you tell me which prts I need to change?

There are a few things that need to be done, first the timing belt and waterpump if this engine has one most do, so for this you would need a waterpump timing belt kit with pulleys, next is a complete tune up, spark plugs ,wire if eng uses if not then coil boots, air and fuel filters cabin filter, pcv valve, a fuel system cleaning which is done by machine at a shop called a motor vac service. then check fan belt , flush cooling system, coolant needed.and then the rest of the service is a lot of checking like brake, suspension , exhaust etc, hope this helps.

When should the timing belt be replaced on a 1.6L Ecotec engine?

Assuming that you do mean the 1.6l ecotec and not the e-techII, the inspection interval is 50,000km and the replacement interval is 100,000k. Gm has since revised this to eliminate the inspection and just replace at 100,000kms. Be advised that if you do this yourself, the replacement procedure calls to loosen the waterpump bolts to increase slack in the timing belt. which always causes a leak, you are better to replace the waterpump/gasket while you do the belt. This will cost in the area of $350 at the dealership (assuming a $100/hr door rate). You should also know that the interval on spark plugs is 40,000km as they are standard plugs, nothing fancy, and you increase your risk of shorting the coil running any longer on the plugs. ($380+). hope this helps.

Have your cam seals checked. Cam seals are a big problem on these cars and a major source of oil leaks. Another source is the oil cooler gasket but that doesn't appear to be the issue here as your leaks are well above the oil cooler. Good Luck.

Car wont start after over heating

Sometimes when the waterpump leaks it leaks onto the timing belt making it slippery the timing belt probably jumped a tooth, to check this purchase a compression tester unscrew a spark plugs and screw the tester into the spark plug hole, have an assistant turn the engine over for 5 seconds wright down the reading proceed to test all 4 cylinder the compression should be a minimum of 110 psi on all if one of the readings is 50 psi the timing belt must be replaced, either way you must perform a compression test to rule out a timing belt issue first.
