A thermal switch controls cooling fan operation independently. If the cooling fan keeps running long after shutdown, that switch may have become too independent and will have to be replaced

Testimonial: "I put that independent ****** under arrest (replaced the radiator fan motor relay) and solved the problem. Thanks for your help. MrBobC"

2004 ford thunderbird< radiator fan keep running

Hi Kevin. Since your fan run even when the engine is cold,my advise is to go direct to the temperature sensor, which actually is the main culprit for causing the confusion to the ECU. Since the temperature sensor does not work correct, the message send to the ECU is wrong - like is sending that the engine is hot - the ECU order the fan to start. Also there is another possibility for the fan relay to remain stuck and leave the fan to work constantly.

Good Luck.

Will the bad waterpump on a 2003 pontiac aztek cause the temperature to overheat sometimes but run good others?

the water pump is working
the problem indicates blocked radiator cores preventing full flow at high rpm
have it flow tested by an accredited radiator shop or just fit a new radiator

Why does my car overheat? I have replaced the relay switch, and the fan switch. What else can I do?

Since you have replaced the relay and fan switches, does the fan come on with high engine temperature? If not, this fan must run with engine temperature or the engine will overheat. If so then check the radiator for clogs, and the thermostat. Start the engine and run until normal temperature, feel the radiator carefully by hand, it should be hot at the top and generally get cooler as you feel toward the bottom, without any cold spots. If you find a cold spot then the radiator is plugged and needs to be cleaned or replaced. The thermostat is located at the left end of the cylinder head, underneath the ignition module on the 1.9L, it could be stuck closed, a good method of checking this it to feel the upper radiator hose while the engine is warming up, it should become very hot as the engine runs, so be careful not to burn your hands. If it stays cold until the engine is overheated then it is stuck closed. Also check the exhaust pipe, with antifreeze in the cooling system there should be no white smoke coming out while engine is running, if there is the cylinder head gasket may be blown, this will require more intense repair and should be taken to a shop. Hope this helps, let me know.

1999 Olds Alero. Low coolant light comes on and stays on even though its full. Starts running hot to the 3/4 mark. When the heater is turned on it cools off. Could this be the thermostat or the water pump.

TAKE RADIATOR CAP OFF WITH ENGINE COLD AND CHECK WATER ..MAKE SURE RADIATOR NOT BLOCKED,,PLASTIC BAG ETC. THIS SOUNDS LIKE LOW WATER OR RADIATOR ..STOPPED UP INSIDE ..IF YOU HAVE GOOD HEAT IT'S FULL OF WATER. REPLACE T STAT B4 RADIATOR..IT'S CHEAPER. ALSO CHECK FOR RADIATOR COOLING FAN OPPERATION..I,M RULING OUT THE WATER PUMP.

My radiator fans are constantly running while the car is on, the problem is in this cold weather the car temperature stays below the C even after driving for a while, is there a way to adjust the fans...

nope, sounds like the coolant temperature sonsors have failed. they should be fairly cheap and easy to change. i dont know exactly where they are, usually on the intake or near the thermostat housing.

My fan stays on all the time

Engine temp sensor has gone bad, thinks the engine is hot even with the ignition off.
open the engine compartment fuse panel and remove the fuse for the fan so you dont run your battery down while you park it, put it back in to drive though, just till you get the new sensor.

Radiator Fan's Run All The Time

There are 2 things that will cause this to happen. 1. The thermostat needs to be replaced and, 2. The coolant sensor can be bad. When I had this problem, I changed them both at the same time, she been just fine since then. Also, I had the check engine light on, and got the code from AutoZone (it's free!)

Fan cooling system of an engine v.w

A thermal switch controls the radiator fan and if the temperature of your radiator is above a preset temperature value, the thermal switch will close and the fan will turn on and will stay on even after you turn the motor off, until your radiator temperature cools down. I wouldn't worry about.
