SOURCE: Fiat Palio-1.2 ELX (Petrol) clutch ''not-working''

Even I had this problem. After sometime engaging gear was difficult. There are two reasons. First, it could be leakage of servo fuel/brake fluid from the master cylinder on the clutch side or it could be due to the wear of the pressure plate.

It's running extremely rich. Have the fuel pressure and fuel pump checked.

Black smoke emission

Sound like the oil rings have collapsed. Assuming this is a petrol engine, check your spark plugs for oil and carbon. If they are dirty then you probably need an engine overhaul.

Causes of high fuel consumption and black smoke ?

Black smoke = rich fuel/air mixture (not enough air - too much fuel).
Maybe change the air filter so air can get in.
Not sure why you would want to change the plugs but if you got a lot of miles on them, go ahead and change them.

Black exaust smoke , high fuel consumption and poor performance after my engine head got repaired

what year, what country, what model car.
what engine options. some cars makes have 8 eng. options.
if in the USA or canada say so, and in that case the VIN works.
post the VIN,
you go to the store and buy parts and that is the first question
ever wonder why?
bingo, we cant see your car. not ever.

Engine surges, black smoke from tailpipe, and excessive fuel consumption

Hi,black smoke from tail pipe is unburned fuel ( excessive fuel consumption ) so your not firing on all cylinders!!! ( that's where the surging is coming from ) if i recall the 88 model has a carburetor.( not tbi,or injected) but either way its going to be in the spark! start with the easiest/cheapest and work your way up... will be like a #1.bad spark plug wire, or #2.bad plug, #3.bad distributor cap,#4.bad distributor rotor,#5 bad electronic distributor module. will be one or more of those items that's bad.......good luck..yz-maniac
