Question about 1998 Dodge Intrepid
Just got this car, ? or had it a year, and this never happened till
this morning.??? context, counts.??
side tank, (called the overflow tank) not arguing name, but that is its function of 2, it captures expanded AF the sucks it back cold)
its purpose is to keep the RAD topped off ! at all times.
who knows, not me, not you.
it's only evidence,,
can be live , real time evidence!
or the echo of the past. or some dumb kid at Giffyboobs , bad dream. (put oil down the wrong hole, infamous lot)
now if i find this issue , i do this.; ( just happened this AM)
1: i clean that side tank , real clean, using powerful purple cleaner.
2: then i do a system flush and new AF ( the op guide 2 year steps)
3: then ,drive car , all week or until each morning checks show Oil in AF. I do take the cap off , dead cold of the rad each morning.
(under extreme suspicion, not every day of cars life)
OIl in the top tank of RAD, under cap? look, this is LIVE! facts!
yes/no? if yes, panic if no, then it must have been the ECHO thing.
if yes ,there are 2 more tests.
(not counting an engine compression test, which is 1st)
the fsm shows the spec, 190psi for most cars. depends on engine option.. unstated. do the Compr test WOT, or its wrong.
A: the green/blue rad tester kit, you connect to rad cap.
and if it changes color , you have Exhaust in the coolant. bad.
B: the Rad pressure tester, you hand pump it at cap of RAD
and do a leakdown test. if fail ?,bad.
if fail, its a bad headgasket or cracked block and or head.
there are 3 tests, and more of you mech is pro grade ASE guy.
here is the other tests.
you can do a leak down tests on each cylinder (yes, a tool)
and listen with a rubber hose to ear to see(hear) where the air is flowing.
* exhaust ports, Hissssssssss*
* intake ports (hose at open throttle valve all at once.
* at oil filler cap, it off, hisss... cracked block. some is normal , a pro knows normal from bad, bad is real loud.
* ive even listented to , the gaping hole behind the waterpump.
why do that.
easy, if my tests show the block is bad, i might just push car off a cliff or scrap it.
my last motor, the block was cracked and i had a spare.
but you can in fact follow all evidence... like a blood hound.

-Internal leak (Oil to water/Water to oil). So when the engine is hot
it push coolant back to its reservoir. That's why there is some oil there.

What engine? 2.7 passenger side on the bottom next to oil pan. 3.2 and 3.5 Drivers side coming off the side of block, near the front under the exhaust manifold.

a timing belt. the water pump uses it to turn it and you got to take it off to change the pump anyway so you might as well get a new one.also the hydralic timing belt tensioner should be replaced at the same time just to be sure.you will need anti freeze of course as well
