What year, what country? cars vary by that. greatly.
why on earth do that, ask a real question./
i want to do x , because some net bunny told me z?
most cars here will go quite nuts doing that.
on all my cars it will set brake failure and set off alarms , lamps and DTCs/
now let me guess. you have DRL and dont like it
well i can answer that, easy
but you need to answer all questions.
starting with country and year car.

some will post to drive with Ebrake set 1 at click
dont listen to them. this fracks sup the brake self adjusters on most cars.

case in point, my car has DRL, in usa, and the same car
in canada same year to, has DRL too and both use a different
DRL module.. see?

DRL = Daylight Running Lamps.

Try bypassing each switch, for diagnostic reasons. Brake fluid sensors fail more often than e brake switches.

Convertable roof wont operate although all fusess are good, switch is working, roof motor is ok. passenger sunvisor is slightly damaged but all connections inside are good. any ideas please?

Check to be sure the switch that indicates the handbrake is engaged is making contact. If the car thinks the handbrake isn't engaged then it won't move the roof.

Handbrake light comes on but fluid level is topped up

When you engage the handbrake the handbrake light should come on. It has nothing to do with the fluid level.
If it is coming on without the handbrake being applied, then you possibly have:
1. A faulty switch. The switch activates the handbrake light.
2. A stuck braking cable. To eliminate this place the handbrake on and attempt to back-up (reverse). It should not move with your foot off the brake. Do not put your foot on the gas (accelerator). Place your foot on the brake and disengage the the handbrake. Again with your feet neither on the gas or brake. The vehicle should move backwards.
In all likleyhood the switch is bad. It is easily located right under the handbrake arm and easily removed and replaced.

Handbrake indicator light

I'm sorry but i laughed in dismay when I read your problem. The dealer is an idiot clear and simple. It is perfectly reasonable for you to expect the handbrake to be disengaged if the indicator is off.
Yes it is quite possible to drive the car with the handbrake on but you would feel it no question. However if it was only slightly engaged there would indeed be some wear on the rear brakes. The handbrake has merely got a thin metal cable that runs underneath your car that splits into two separate cables which in turn connect to the rear left and right brakes. So there aren't any extra brakes for the handbrake just the ones which are on the rear wheels.

Of course the other thing is you may have a faulty handbrake indicator light. So it's not really about who's fault it is but where the fault lies on the car. I'd go and check out a local garage unless of course your car is still under warranty.
If it is go to another dealer and armed with the info above don't let them fool you
Good luck and i hope you get it sorted

Windows will not roll up and the top works sometime.

Believe it or not, it sounds like it's the handbrake....does the light come on when you engage the handbrake?

The brake must be fulle engaged for the roof assembly to operate. There is a light that comes on the dash when it is engaged.

If the '04 has the same setup as the '00, then there should be a switch on the top of the steering column that will turn the parking lights on or off even if the key is removed. Hope this helps.

Brake warning light on,beeper sounds when car is driving

Sounds like the sound when you leave the handbrake on. The same light as the low brake oil level will come on with the handbrake. And the warning sound coming from the cluster will come on if you leave the handbrake on and start driving to warn you that you left it on. Guessing your handbrake is not on and that your brake level sensor on the master cylinder is good (on the cap) check your handbrake switch and the wires there. You can unplug it and try it like that or you might have to bypass the 2 wires in the connector together. I can't remeber if with the handbrake on if it closes the circuit or the opposite. Once you have the connector in your hand you can unplug it with the car running and see if the light goes off. If not you can jump the 2 wires and see then. Or just check the switch isn't staying stuck. You'll see more once the handrake console is off. Just look around the mechanism of the handbrake and you'll find the switch.
