It could be several things, but I would look under the car to spot a leak. Look at the gas lines coming from the fuel tank, there should be two lines.

I was driveing my 99 chevy malibu and I smelled gas and all of a sudden it died it tried to fire but didn't. I checked the oil and it smelled gassy . I turned on switch to hear fuel pump and ots working. I...

Yeah, If the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line has gas in it, change the regulator. I'd also change the oil and filter as many times as necessary to get the gas out of the oil, after you fix the problem.
You could check proper fuel pressure. Sometimes you might smell gas with evap system leak. Any applicable trouble codes?

If you smell gas in your engine oil, it can be a sign of a number of problems. The problem can be caused by cold weather preventing the excess fuel to not be burned.Engine problems will need to be diagnosed by a mechanic. The one quick fix you can do until then when you smell gas in your engine oil is to change the oil right away.

When changing the oil and filter on a 2001 dodge durango, would or could a mechanic notice or smelled a gas leak from the gasline?

I think anyone would smell a gas leak when changing oil. Whether he would tell you about it is another matter.

My 1996 buick skylark has gas leaking into the oil. What is causing this?

The most common causes are a faulty injector or fuel pressure regulator.
If one of the injectors is not closing, it will allow liquid gas to flow into the cylinder and past the rings.
If the regulator fails, it will allow liquid gas into the intake.

Peugeot 207 oil level increase

Check to see if gas is getting into the oil which would raise the level. This can happen from flooding, i.e. a leaky injector dumping too much gas or possibly gas blowby past the piston rings and ending up in crankcase. If gas is in the oil most likely an injector is bad. Smell the oil and check to see if it smells like gas and or check viscosity of oil.. thin oil

This happens as the motor wears. You have a 94 and I will assume your miles are over 150,000 (we drive them because we love them). I would start with a fresh oil change and check this again to see if it is just happening sooner now because of the mile son the vehicle. The truth is that as they get older they need more frequent oil changes. I would not allow it to stay with gas in the oil for very long as this can cause premature bearing failure and excessive wear.

Gas smell in oil

The white strip of fluid on the oil is a slight amount of coolant getting into the oil . The water could be from condensation on the dip stick. I would drain the oil and just put regular recommended oil in it with a new filter. I would pull the spark plugs and check for any coolant or oil residue on them. Then drive the vehicle a little and check the performance. If there is unusual noise from the engine then or blue smoke from the tailpipe the engine has internal damage.

Assuming the engine performance stays the same. There could be a fuel injector sticking intermitantly.

Oil smells like gas

sometime you will get this smell if you go a little over your oil change time of every 3000 miles also check when you replace the PVC valve normally in top of the valve cover gasket cause this will cut back on the ventilation that is needed to go through your engine if you take it off and it rattles it is still good but if it has been a while since you changed it it would be a good idea to change it also
