What's the problem with it? Why don't you think you can do it yourself. Does the belt go around an engine mount? If so just jack up the engine by the oil pan, don't forget a piece of wood between jack and pan. Just support it, take out the mount bolts, jack it up a couple of pumps, and change the belt, then put it all back together in reverse.

If this is the V6, its a real pain. The adjuster bolt is no problem, but the pivot bolt is under the edge of the timing belt cover . Check on Toyotanation.com

Take the car to another mechanic. The steering is likely going stiff because the belt is loose, that's why it's squeaking and slipping on the power steering pump pulley. The mechanic should have checked and tightened the belt. The pumps rarely fail. If you have a gas leak, it must be repaired immediately and it depends what is wrong that will determine cost. Go to a smaller shop that has been around along time or get a referral from friends that have had good luck with a shop that does repairs, not just oil changes.

2001 Jetta steering wheel hard to turn. Making a sqealing noise, and smells light rubber buring. :( What could this be? I can't even drive my car because the wheel wont turn.

One of the engine pulleys is bad. It's difficult to say which without examining the vehicle personally. It could be the idler pulley, tensioner pulley, or just about any component that is pulley driven on the front of the engine. With the engine off and cool, place a small white line on each of the pulleys. You can use white out, or just about anything. Have someone then start the engine (with the hood up) and examine the pulleys to see which one isn't spinning. The other components are spinning, and one is not. The white (yellow whatever) spot will help to see which one is seized. The belt is rubbing on it causing the rubber smell. Be very careful as the belt has the potential to break causing an injury. It may be the power steering pump itself and will need to be replaced. Where can i locate the power steering "stuff" in a 1995 Toyota Camry? The steering is hard one minute and smooth the next...

If the power comes on and off, in all probability it is not a mechanical failure. Seems like the belt that drives the steering pump is loose, and when extra power is required, such as in a tight turn, then it slips and stops providing power assistance. Poke the belt with a finger to see if it loose, and tighten it accordingly. These pumps do not require much power, and the belt does not require to be extremely tense. By trial and error, tighten it bit by bit until it stops slipping. Over tensioning will provoke a failure of the pump pulley. Also check if the pulley or belt have grease on them, because that will contribute to slipping.

I have a 2001 chevy tracker and my belt is off . also the tension idler pully is damage and no one seem to carry it anywhere,, can i move my car to the other side of the street with out the belt ....can...

yes you can move it to the other side of the street. Just dont run it more than a few minutes because without the belt the water pump won't turn. Just be aware that the power steering wont work either in this process so it will be difficult to steer.

Power steering belt on 1991 toyota camry

Locate the idler pulley. Loosen the nut in the center of the idler pulley. Then loosen the bolt that protrudes from the back of the pulley. This will let the belt go slack.
