Question about 2000 Daewoo Leganza

1 Answer

Oil in my spark plugs!

I have a '99 Leganza that I bought in 2000. In 2004 I blew a rod in the engine and had a newer, 2000 engine installed. Now I've found that my spark plugs are becoming fouled with engine oil. I replaced the plugs and the car started and ran fine but after trying to start it a few more times, within 24 hours the plugs would fill up with oil again. I had the head cover gasket replaced but it keeps happening.
What could be the cause for this and how can it be repaired?

I over heated my engine and it will not crank

cylinders are full of coolant...Hydrolocked, time for intake and plenium gaskets and prob. lower intkes while you are at it. Dorman makes a nice replacement set the intake plenium with gaskets needed to install, make sure you replace the actual plenium., first I would pull all spark plugs and roll enjine over with plugs out to be sure that is problem 99% sure it is....pretty common in 3800's check your oil for antifreeze , if it rolls over and you decide to fix top end, CHANGE YOUR ENGINE OIL AND FILTER too cause antifreeze and engine BEARINGS don't Mix well shortens life of them.

To start out with, here are two tips. Look at the dipstick, and check to make sure the oil level is not too high. Failing that, take a dollar bill. Stick it up to the exhaust. If it flutters back in and out, you've got vacuum troubles. Put it over the oil fill cap. If it blows out bad, you've got severe ring wear.

Can oil in spark plug hole after changing coil packs, plugs and wires cause 1999 Sportage to run worse than before? Engine is "dieseling" and blew white smoke for a minute or two. Changed valve...

The oil down the plug hole will cause the white smoke, and as you said it cleared in a couple of minutes, but also may have oil fowled the new plug. It cannot have damaged the engine.
pull the oily plug out and clean it in some solvent and try again, make sure the plug caps dont have oil on them

Have a daewoo 2001 legacy se overfilled the oil and car started sputtering and stalled out pulled the plugs and had oil on them and car was blowing white smoke took valve cover off and cleaned most of oil...

OK here is what happened. With the oil overfull, the connecting rod caps, which usually don't dip into the oil, started whipping the oil, creating whipped lubricant that the oil pump couldn't draw in. This more than likely resulted in the loss of lubrication to the camshaft bearings, rod and main bearings, piston rings and walls and the camshaft and rockers and valve system.

Depending on how long the engine ran, the bearings may have spun, keeping any oil from being sent to some bearings, the cylinder walls and piston rings may have worn too much to provide proper compression.

The oil pump probably suffered also.

If you ran it a long time that way with the oil light on, find yourself a remanufactured engine or a used engine & save the headache and expense of rebuilding this one.

If it was for just a few minutes, pull the plugs, put a table spoon of oil into each cylinder to lubricate & seal the piston ring to the cylinder wall for compression, change to a higher gade of oil, crank the engine to try and build oil pressure, reinstall plugs, try and start.

good luck.

When the gasket goes bad, the engine will leak oil like crazy, which is what mine is doing at the moment.

As far as I know, it's really easy to replace the head gasket, which is something I'm in dire need of myself. You just unscrew the bolts, take the top part off, replace the gasket, and screw it back together.

I have a service manual, if you'd like to e-mail me..I can forward it to you.
