This is relatively easy. First off remove the battery this will give you much more room to work. Identify which socket is not working, remove the round black rubber capping from the back of the headlight assembley. Pinch both sides of the metal clip that connects to the socket (you will also need to be sure after pinching to slide each side of the clip downward for the socket to release). Remove and replace socket. Once the socket is taken off your local parts store can easily locate a replacement. If you toook it apart you can put it back together.

Removing low beam bulb on 05 subaruoutback

Whether they become damaged in an accident or simply burn out over time, your Subaru Outback's headlights may eventually need to be replaced. Fortunately, once you've purchased the right replacement bulb for your model year, performing the repair yourself is relatively easy. These instructions only apply to Outback models made after 2000.

  1. Undo the clips on the air intake ducts using a screwdriver and remove the duct from the engine compartment (driver's side bulb removal only.)

  2. 2

Loosen the secured clip on the washer tank with a screwdriver and slide the tank horizontally to allow easier access to the headlight assembly (passenger's side bulb removal only.)

  3. 3

Turn the bulb cover counterclockwise and remove it from the assembly.

  4. 4

Disconnect the headlight electrical connector and undo the assembly retaining spring.

  5. 5

Pull the old bulb directly out of the socket and replace it with the new one. Press the retaining spring back into place and reattach the electrical connector.

  6. 6

Replace the bulb cover, and then turn on the engine. Test the new headlight to make sure it works before replacing the air intake duct or the washer tank and closing the hood.

I replaced my drivers side headlight housing because it was pretty much destroyed. Now I have the new housing in, and my head light still does not work. Any idea if it could be a fuse or something else? If...

I would think both sides run on the same fuse, thus a bad fuse would disable both sides. You have replaced the housing but did you replace the socket for the light? Also did you make sure you have a good ground connection for the socket. Many one side only headlight problems relate to a missing or bad ground connection. My next step would be to get a new socket, and make sure the ground side of the socket is well grounded.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE THE ASSEMBLY ON THE OLDS 95 SO I CAN CHAGNE THE LIGHTS.. I REMOVED TWO SCRES IN THE FRONT BU IT DOES NOT HELP TO REMOVE THE ASSEMBLY

Step 1:
Be sure the ignition key is not in the ignition, and the headlight switch is in the "Off" position.

Step 2:
Locate and remove the two headlight assembly screws on the top rail of the headlight assembly. Use the nut driver to remove them.

Step 3:
Place a rag between the headlight assembly and the bumper to protect the paint.

Step 4:
Wrangle the assembly outward. There is a guide pin behind the assembly on the fender side that holds it in place. This needs to be popped out of its socket in order to remove the headlight assembly. Pull slightly outward from the side, then forward and away from the car.

Step 5:
Locate the correct bulb socket (high-beam/low-beam). Disconnect the wire connector using the flathead screwdriver.

Step 6:
Turn the socket 1/4-turn counterclockwise to remove the socket from the headlight assembly. Remove the old bulb.

Step 7:
Insert the new bulb into the headlight assembly, and turn clockwise to lock into place. Be careful not to touch the glass bulb of the new socket. This could degrade headlight performance.

Step 8:
Reconnect the wire connector to the bulb. Test the light before replacing the headlight assembly, then turn off the lights again.

Step 9:
Reinsert the headlight assembly, making sure to align the guide pin into the socket. Replace the screws and tighten.

I have a 2008 Ford Fusion and the passenger side head lamp will not come on. The fog lights and driver side head lamp works but the passenger side will not work on bright or on dim, what could this be?

Hi. Since the headlight on the driver side is working then we dont have any problem with the fuse or relay. Check the wiring and the socket of the passenger headlight if it is intact to the bulb. If it is intact, then this could be a headlight problem. Time to replace the passenger headlight.

Remove driver side headlight assy to replace side marker light

There are two screws holding the headlight in. The screws are just above the headlight. After removing the screws you'll need to carefully pull straight out on the headlight assembly. There's a ball/socket type joint just behind the headlight. This joint needs separated for the assembly to come all the way ouit. Reaching and replacing the side light bulb requires a bit of arm twisting.
Reverse the order to re-install the headlight.
