2002 Chevy Avalanche Loud Hum/Roar when slowing down vehicle

I am thinking this could be the torque converter, need some feedback from others though. The truck has had a few clanking noises from the transmission and just started this loud hum/roar when the you let off the gas and it is winding down a bit. Anyone got any experiences or ideas what this could be? I took it today for a transmission and oil change to see if that could help, it didn't.
Thanks

Try replacing the front end wheel baring(s) If it is a roar that you can hear resonating from the windows, this is most likely it.

Could be any one of the bearings in the rear axle. Suggest taking it to a reputable transmission shop to get it diagnosed further.

SOURCE: wheel noise or roar in front end with increased road speed

THIS NOISE IS USUALLY THE HUB. HAVE SOMEONE GO WITH YOU ON A TEST DRIVE. GET THE ROARING TO HAPPEN AT ITS LOUDEST AND GENTLY SWERVE THE CAR LEFT AND RIGHT. DON'T BE SURPRISED IF YOU THINK BOTH HUBS ARE BAD. LIFT THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND PUT IT ON JACK STANDS. PULL OUTWARD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TIRE WHILE PUSHING INWARD ON THE TOP OF THE WHEEL. IF THE WHEEL MOVES EXCESSIVELY YOU FOUND THE HUB THAT IS NOISY. USING A MECHANICS STETHOSCOPE YOU CAN SOMETIMES HEAR A ROARING TYPE NOISE ON THE BACKING PLATE SIDE OF THE HUB WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE TRANS IN GEAR. TRY NOT TO GET THE SPEED UP TOO FAR ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN HEAR THE NOISE AT LOW SPEED, YOU DON'T WANT TO VIBRATE OFF THE STANDS.

Check you transmission fluid. It sounds like a Torque Converter Lockup Solenoid problem though.

Also there was a Tech Support Bulletin related to the Torque Converter listed. Make sure you have taken your vehicle in to get it taken care of.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION NO. C01 3/8" TORQUE CONVERTER DRAIN BACK VALVE
    Issue Date: 01/2003

    NHTSA Campaign ID number:
Potential number of units affected: 30,000
    Model year(s): 2003
    Manufactured: 10/15/2002 - 11/18/2002
Owner notification start date: January, 2003 Defect: 2003 models equipped with a 4.0L engine only.
Consequence: The torque converter drain back valve on affected vehicles may contain a check ball that swells. A swollen check ball will restrict fluid flow to the cooler and cause the transmission to overheat. This could cause transmission damage.
Solution: The torque converter drain back valve assembly must be replaced.

That's an oxygen sensor/converter issue. When the (2) O2 sensors read exactly the same readings (one either side of converter) means converter is bad.

Trans shifts ok but has vibrations though all gears..also engine oil leak at rear of engine.

If your truck is 4WD , try this........ Put the transfer case in N and try going thru the gears , if the vibration is there , could be engine or trans.
If vibration goes away , look elsewhere , could be bent drive shaft , bent axle , bent rim , bad wheel bearing , steering component , wheel balance , or a host of other things. I suspect that it is not the trans because I have never come across something like that before , the only thing I can think of on the trans that would cause vibration would be a worn out input or output shaft bearing. If truck is automatic , could be problem with torque converter , if truck is manual , could be clutch problem.

    Hi:
This just my best guess, but the only time I had a vehicle behave like that, the lock up torque converter was not releasing properly. My car was a Chrysler, and The torque converter lock up solenoid was to blame, and it could be the same thing for you.
