I have a 1998 cadillac deville, that is over heating

check thermostat, put a coolant pressure tester to check for leaks. check radiator for fluid levels.
check to see if electric fan is working.
start car, when cooled, open radiator cap and check to see if its flowing,if not, then could be a bad water pump.
check carpet under dash for wet spots to indicate if heater core is bad.
any one of those could be at fault.

How do I drain the radiator in a 1998 Cadillac DeVille?

The radiator drain is on the drivers side all most to the bottom of the tank. Remove the bottom shield, then gently move the lines that may be blocking access to the drain plug. The plug has 2 wings, Just loosen it the plug does not have to come all the way out. You may have to put a small screwdriver in the drain hole (on the bottom of the side tank of the radiator to get the radiator to drain) Also remove the cap on the surge tank.Hope this helps

1998 Cadillac DeVille Overheats

The cooling fans will not come on until 225 degrees. Normal temp is around 199-215. Sitting still in traffic most will inch up around 220 or so. When you turn ac on it turns the fans on and may cool down engine, Check fan operation.

Engine revs high after driving a while in the morning

Sounds like the theromstatic is sticking, making the temp to run higher than normal. The temp should be around 185 to 190 tops. Also check the flues on the radiator, make sure it is recirculation well once the theroms. open up. I not sur if this has a clutch fan or and elect.fan. But make sure it is pulling air thru the radiator well, to help to keep the motor cool.
