Thr first thing you would want to check is the speedometer cable it will be a cable coming from transmission to the back of your dashboard, most likely issue is broken cable

Speedo sensor faulty how difficult to replace

How do you know the VSS - vehicle speed sensor is bad ? The speedometer not working , have a DTC - diagnostic trouble code ? Most vehicles now ,from 1996 on , the VSS is an input to the PCM/ECM or TCM-engine control module . The vehicles have a network that modules talk on (serial data bus ) , The engine computer sends speed data to the instrument cluster ,where the microprocessor in the instrument cluster interprets an controls the stepper motor setting the speedo .
What year , make an model vehicle do you have ? GM vehicles had a problem with bad stepper motors !

My speedometer stopped working so my truck is stuck in 1st gear

Hi Ber, It would help a great deal to know what vehicle and the year of manufacture we're talking about. Modern vehicles use the speed sensor to actuate the gear change on auto boxes. take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan. Have the speedo repaired and you will probably have the vehicle back to being faithful again. Regards John

NX speedo not working

vehicles of this age normally have a speedo drive mounted in the extension housing( back of the gearbox) this will have a plug normally with 3 wires on it, if this connection is not connected and working neither you speedo or trip meter will work. this will also affect your gear change, fuel economy the whole kit and caboodle. earlier cars use a speedo cable and later models use GPS(no visable drive at all)

Speedo works intermitently 99 outback legacy

I had to replace my vehicle speed sensor in my 98 Legacy GT. you can unscrew it from the transmission and hook it up to a drill to spin it and it will show the RPM's on the speedo, but it could be the sensor or the speedo head. The sensors are around $120, and having a speedo repaired can be a few hundred at the max. It's most likely the vehicle speed sensor only because that is usually the problem nine times out of ten. I hope this info helps.

Speed metter does not working also engiine light check on

This problem may be a fuse blown, or a faulty speed sensor, wiring for speedo, or other problems with speedo cluster. You said check engine light was on, this may be related to speedo. As computer reads vehicle speed it controls trans, engine, even radio volume as vehicle changes speed. Try looking for any blown fuses first.

What cause the O/d light blink

it's usually because you have a bad VSS, Vehicle Speed Sesnor. It sends a signal from the trans to the speedo and engine computer. Usually speedo stops working too.

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731) is a magnetic pickup that sends a signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) . This VSS signal transmits vehicle speed to the powertrain control module .

Speedo not working corectly

This is an electronic speedo, could be several things but probably 1st and easiest thing to try is repalceing the vehicle speed sensor(vss). Also need to know if check engine light is on, and if any other electrical items are malfunctioning.

Speedodometer

The speedo is electronic, only 2 things will cause this, the vehicle speed sensor, the other is the speedo head itself, this assumes you have checked the fuses, the most likely problem is the speedo itself.
