Question about 1988 Chevrolet S-10

How hard is it to swap out a 2.8 to a 4.3 in a chevy s10 blazer??

I have an old 89 s10 blazer with a 4.3, almost 200,000 miles on it, considering having it remanufactured because it is a GREAT engine. to buy even a used one is about $1,500! WOW! i purchased a MINT 88, BUT it has the 2.8 :( with only 75,000 miles on it. they are the exact same. 2 door, 4wd, automatic, air. how hard would it be to put a 4.3 in place of my 2.8?? i love my old 89 but it is in sad shape. was looking to restore it till i came across this mint 88. but sadly, the 2.8 doesnt even stand up to the 4.3. i'm a girl with a great respect for vintage diehards and s10 blazers for some strange reason. not a flashy vehicle but VERY reliable. the only way i can express my passion for this vehicle, you ever have the BEST dog, your best furry friend? passes away and you try to replace them? doesnt happen. my blazer is my loyal dog ha. please help me :')

everything in interchangeable? i wont need to change the tranny, wire harness, computers, radiator or exhaust manifolds?? i've learned that the 2.8 V is at 60 degrees and the 4.3 is at 90 degrees, therefore making the top half much larger. i've been discouraged from doing this like i was discouraged from putting a 3 inch body lift on it. too many mods just to give it a lift and make it "appear" tough ha. i just dont want to have to change too many origional parts. this is a very tough truck to come buy especially in the condition its in.

Just pull the wiring harness and ECM. Everything else should be cake. Don't forget to protect the ECM from static, electric. No plastic bags, metal, or anything electrically or statically conductive. put it on a wooden shelf or something.

Nope just the Computer and Wiring Harness, ECM stands for Engine Control Monitor. Have fun girl, don't get all intimidated. It will be fine.

Will a 2003 chevy s10 4.3 transmission interchange with 1994 s10 4.3 trans

This 4.3 V6 is just a 350 V8 with 2 cylinders missing and even a V8 trans will fit/interchange physically being the same bolt pattern and size. If it's the same shift pattern and both transmissions are overdrive transmissions, yes, it will interchange. If it's GM, it'll swap. From 1988 the automatic transmissions have a multi bolt pattern and Pontiac, Caddy, Olds and Chevy, all will bolt up.

S10 Blazer 4.3 to a 350 FI

If you live in a state with smog license requirements your wasting your time, the engine has to meet EPA requirements for the year vehicle was manufactured your car is considered a clunker good luck getting it smogged. And it is no big deal to change. 350 is almost identical to 4.3 just some variations.

89-98 chevy blazer

It's not worth doing all that conversion, buy the time you spend the time and money to convert the 89 4.3 to work on the 98 blazer, it would be cheaper to install a 98 vortec rebuild. The 89 4.3 have a TBI fuel injection system and the ecm on the 98 will not work and the bad news is that the ecm on the 98 also controls the transmission shift points and the 89 will not, so even if you swap the ecm to have the 89 4.3 engine work. the transmission will not shift. Sorry for the bad news but it would be cheaper to replace the 98 engine with the years of 1996 to 2001. Good luck and hope this helps.
