2001 GMC ENVOY- I quickly put the car in park and removed the key in one motion..when I went to get out the car rolled backwards. I realized that as I turned the car off it was in reverse. I now can't...

The key lock doesn't lock it in whatever gear it happens to be in - it only locks it in Park. If it's in Reverse now, you should be able to shift it to any other gear, including Park. THEN it'll lock. If you shift it to Neutral now, it'll start there.

Also... you shouldn't actually have to have the car running to shift it - you should only have to have the key in any position except the Lock position. You may still be required to step on the brake pedal, though.

Reverse lights stay on in all gears

Back-Up Light remains always ON you should check the Park/Neutral Position Switch (A/T) .The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM.
The ECM receives signals (NSW, R, 2 and L) from the park/neutral position switch.

My 2001 Dodge Caravan's transmission is stuck in reverse.

Things haven't changed much...look on top of the transmission in the engine compartment and look at the shifting linkage. Look for anything that could be interfering with the shifting. One linkage is the cable to the Shift Lever and Rod that goes down into the transmission. Remove the cable adjustment screw.
Move the shift lever rod towards the front of the Van into the Park Indent Position. Place the Driver's Position (Dash) Shift Lever into Park and then reconnect the Cable to the Shift Lever and tighten down the cable adjustment screw to 70 in-lbs.
Check operation's

The van will not start but without the key on the auto relay is buzzing. the van did start once but cut off. it only started after jamming the shift lever up into the park position.

Sounds like the safety nuetral switch its located on the trans mission and will only allow the vehicle to be started in park or nuetral position but if its gone bad or out of adjustment your vehicle will never start. Look under the hood on the top of the transmission assuming its front wheel drive where the shift linkage attatches to the transmission there will be an electronic part there with a wire connector that should be the one. I f its rear wheel drive then its under the vehicle generally on the drivers side of the tronamission.
