Hi, I have a couple/few issues with my 2002 grand prix gt with 185,000 miles. I took it into a tire shop to get the wheel bearings replaced because I was hearing a noise that would increase with speed. (replaced both sides about 3 years ago) They replaced both front bearings. The noise is still there and they told me it was a transmission problem. Took it to a transmission shop and they said nothing wrong there and to wait it out until it gets worse to determine its exact problem... It seems to be loudest at about 35 mph but is still there at 65 mph. The sound does not seem to increase in speed...just noise level. I do hear an occasional popping when turning right as well. Could they be related? Another problem I have is every once in a while my fan will not blow air for a few minutes and I will also lose my headlights and interior lights during this time...I also do not have lights on my stereo anymore...I can not tell what time it is or what Cd/Channel I am on...After a few minutes of driving my fan and exterior lights will all pop on. If its at night, I manually have to turn on the lights. No one seems to be able to figure out what's going on. I have not taken it to the dealer yet as I'm sure they will ask a fortune for whatever is going on. My husband usually does the work on my car...even he's lost. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks so much.
Popping noise or clunk could come from cv joint of front axle shaft
and look if back plate of front wheel not touching the rotor
for electrical problem to say without seen it but I will check ground or bad connection to headlight switch (burn connection)
if there is no bad connection at radio the radio display dim come from the headlight switch and dome lamp rheostat
hope it helps
Testimonial: "Thanks for your help! We found out a bit too late that it was definitely the CV Joint (my car left me stranded at W.S.U.) but that's ok. It's fixed and I no longer have the popping sound or the vibration. Sure wish my mechanic could have told me that! I haven't had a chance to look into the electrical problem but I will definitely do that. Your tip on the CV joint was right on the $. Thank you!"
