Question about 1990 Toyota Pickup

My 1991 toyota truck idles fine whe io pre ss the gas it will go up then down fine when i hit the brake it starts to race up then down when i let off the brake it quits?

Rule out the brake booster diaphram, remove the vacum line to the booster and plug the hose up, handbrake on, start the engine, if it is ok then you have a split diaphram in the booster, see your local brake shop for a replacement.

your toyota problem is the brake booster (servo) ,
I don't know if you have noticed that, when you press the brake pedal you can hear the air leaks , is like a whistling noise.

I disconnected my battery in 08 tundra and now it wont idle


disconecting batt resets the computer. now it needs to learn how to set everything to run again. disconnect batt for atleast 60 seconds, re atach, start car it will start and die(dont press gas) do this over and over until it idles (could take up to 10 times). by pressing the gas you make the computer think it is idling to high so it keeps turning down the idle. it will idle fine after reseting computer and starting several times without hitting gas peddle.

Engene dies when is started


It can be issue with fuel pressure,its low or the problem relates to faulty spark plugs.

91 Buick Century-About 75-80% of the time I will start my car the service engine light will stay on. It idles really high then when I put it in gear it sputters and almost always dies unless I give it lots...


Sounds like carbon build up on the ( IAC Valve ) idle air control valve. Take IAC valve off and get a can of non-chlronated brake cleaner and a wire brush and clean carbon out of valve.If this does'nt fix it take the mass air flow sensor off and do same but do'nt use wire brush just the cleaner.Afterwards reset the computer by taking the ground off the battery for 30 seconds or pull the ECM fuse out then put it back and this will reset the computer.HOPE THIS HELPS!!

I suspect what you have is a vacuum leak.

1. Try hunting down the leak with carb spray. Don't get too crazy with it, when you get to your leak it will change the way it runs. Also do not deliberatly spray this on spark plug wires as one stray spark and you will need a fire extinguisher. This method is safe, just use your head.

2. If you detect a leak at the brake booster, unplug the vacuum source line for it and plug it. Then trying running the truck again. If it runs normal the leak is in your booster and must be replaced.

Take car for trouble code at Autozone or similar store for free. it is probably the idle position sensor.(IPS)

sound very much like a vacuum leak.... also maybe your timing is off? possibly advanced? try retarding it with the distributor if thats the case...
