Known issue to occur occasionally on VW/Audi. What is occurring is that the alternator is not spinning out fast enough to start charging, so the light is on. Once you rev the engine, the alternator starts to charge and remains charging till its shut off and restarted. It can be related to too low of an idle (not adjustable, unless you have a dirty throttle plate or air leak), the alternator itself (aftermarket or a bad rebuild) or an incorrect alternator pulley installed (too large).

Hey there if the batt is ok and the alternator is ok,,,then the belt could be slipping ,,so when you rev it it goes out,,replace the belt or ajust it,,,or the belt tensioner could be faulty if its a self adjusting one,,,

The 'battery light' is the indicator for charging. The alternator/regulator is not charging at low revs. When you step on the gas it charges. You can check if the belts are tight, battery cables are tight and if the alternator is faulty. Many auto part stores will check it for free.

Why did my Audi a6 six speed lose power while driving and continuous battery drain?

Sounds like your alternator might be bad or your engine belt is loose (or broken). If you can get the car started, check voltage at the battery. If you have 12+ volts for at least 20 minutes, your alternator is ok. If you have less, it's bad.

Audi A6 2006 problem with battery

Yes
First thing is to test the battery and this is how Turn on head lights, if dull leave on to see how long the stay on for. Next turn lights off put battery on charge for 6 hrs .Turn on lights again if still dull either battery or charger no good
If lights bright try to start and when starter trys to turn engine over the lights go dim THEN battery is no good.
Then get a jump start from another battery and put pos term on both batterys first, then earth lead(BLACK) on last then start if starts ok remove the BLACK lead and turn on head lights if goes bright ALTERNATORs ok so replace battery ....

Check the alternator out put. Also the alternator could have a bad voltage regulator,or diode gone out, would cause this problem.Out put should read 13.75 to14.25 .
